13 College Teams Will Compete For Renee Powell Cup at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
DALLAS — For the third consecutive year, Arcis Golf — the second largest owner and operator of private, resort, and daily fee clubs in the United States — is the Presenting Sponsor for the National Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship.
The 30th annual event, conducted by the Women In Golf Foundation, Inc. (WIGF), will be held March 30 to April 2 at The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, an Arcis Golf facility in Katy, Texas, located 30 miles west of Houston. This is the second straight year the event has been played at the beautiful par-71 course, voted “Top 25 Best of Texas” by Gulf Coast Golfer.
The invitational championship is WIGF’s major fundraising event and will feature 13 women’s college golf teams competing for the Renee Powell Cup, named for and in honor of the second-ever African American woman to play on the LPGA Tour and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2022.
At last year’s event, Howard University won the Division I title dominantly as it finished 40 strokes ahead of Delaware State University. Howard’s Emily Mayne, a sophomore from Jamaica, was the 2024 individual medalist and will return with her team to defend their titles.
Led by Kaathi Gunasegar, a junior from Malaysia, Lincoln University (located near Oxford, Pa.) won last year’s Division II crown and will return this year.
In addition to Howard, Delaware State, and Lincoln, the other 10 participating schools include: Alabama State University, Chicago State University, Edwin Waters College, Fisk University, Johnson and Wales University, Paine College, Prairie View A&M University, Savannah State University, Southern University, and Texas Southern University.
The WIGF, headquartered in Atlanta, is a 501(c)(3) organization that promotes women in golf. The organization focuses on creating opportunities for females by implementing programs that develop leadership and life skills as they learn to play the game of golf competitively for business and recreational purposes. WIGF has contributed more than $300,000 to collegiate women’s golf programs, while more than 2,000 women and girls have participated and benefitted from the work of WIGF at both the collegiate and junior golf levels.
As part of the overall event, the WIGF hosts an impactful professional development session for the student-athletes. Like previous years, the session provides a unique platform for industry leaders—including those from Arcis Golf—to share their career and personal growth stories, offer best practices, and inspire young women as they prepare for their future careers.
The 30th anniversary theme of this year’s event is “Sankofa Swing: Honoring the Past, Driving the Future.”
“Inspired by the Sankofa bird, a powerful Ghanaian symbol that teaches us to look back and honor our past to move forward and build our future, we have created our focus for 2025,” LaJean Gould, President of WIGF, explained. “The Sankofa bird stands with its feet facing forward while reaching back to retrieve an egg, representing the wisdom, experiences, and foundation that shape future successes—a message that deeply reflects the mission of WIGF.”
Gould said she is indebted to Arcis Golf for its ongoing partnership with WIGF and added that the venue shift to The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch helped heighten the event’s visibility and attracted more teams. Last year’s championship featured 11 schools.
“At Arcis Golf, we are committed to inclusiveness at all levels,” said Blake Walker, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arcis Golf. “The National Women’s Collegiate Championship is more than a competitive golf tournament. It’s an opportunity for these student-athletes to network with one another, attend potentially life-changing professional development sessions, and explore options for their futures.”
The National Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship carries great significance for Linnet Carty, who is both Arcis Golf’s Director of Representation and a WIGF board member.
“Through events and initiatives, Arcis Golf supports access and golf career opportunities,” explained Carty. “These impactful programs provide a dual pathway to the athletes in green grass or the business of golf, and LaJean’s vision contributes to making this a high-quality experience.”
Earlier this year, Arcis Golf sponsored the Arcis X HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Golf Championship at The Club at Weston Hills in Weston, Fla. The event showcased 17 HBCU men’s and women’s golf teams in three rounds of competition, as well as a Boys and Girls Club golf clinic for first timers, an alumni tournament, a career expo, and concurrent learning opportunities for all participants.
Additionally, in support of women’s golf, the company sponsors LPGA Tour golfer Lilia Vu and rising professional Maisie Filler, Clearview H.O.P.E. for Women Veteran golfers, and hosts the first two rounds of the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) each spring at its Champions Retreat course in Augusta, Ga. Arcis Golf also opens its clubs to HBCU golf teams around the country as part of its grow-the-game initiatives.
An industry leader in providing inventive programming and unrivaled lifestyle amenities that complement exceptional golf offerings, Arcis Golf has invested more than $125 million in the past four years on property upgrades, new amenities, personnel, training, and systems to create extraordinary experiences and forge emotional connections with members and guests. The company has received numerous honors, including a National Golf Foundation “2025 Top 100 Businesses in Golf.”
