Pieter Rossouw of Augusta leads by one stroke; host Hawaiʻi’s Dane Watanabe tied for sixth
KALAUAO, Oʻahu – One year after finishing third, the Augusta Jaguars are in position to capture the team title at the 2026 Pearl at Kalauao Invitational. Augusta surged into the lead with a second-round 6-under-par performance Wednesday, moving to 4-under-par and building a 10-shot advantage over Loyola Marymount, the 2026 John A. Defending champion West Virginia is tied for third with co-host, Hawaiʻi. Both teams sit at 13-over.
Hawaiʻi is led by senior Dane Watanabe, an Oʻahu native who won the 2023 Hawaiʻi High School Athletic Association boys individual state championship. Watanabe is tied for sixth. Three Rainbow Warriors are currently inside the top 20, including freshman Stryker Leick and junior Campbell Kerr.

Hawai‘i’s Dane Watanabe holds his follow through on Pearl at Kalauao’s 12th hole during the first round of the 2026 Pearl at Kalauao Invitational on Nov. 4, 2026 in ‘Aiea, HI.
UC San Diego, last year’s tournament runner-up, is tied for eighth. Ethan Lien leads the Tridents, tied for 14th individually.
Co-host Hawaiʻi Pacific sits in 12th. The Sharks were guided by Jackson Burns, who is tied for 23rd.
The tournament’s marathon opening day featured 36 holes of competition, but darkness forced play to be suspended with several holes remaining. The unfinished holes will be completed Thursday beginning at 7:30 a.m. HT, followed by the final round of the 54-hole tournament.

Loyola Marymount’s Joseph Buttress tees off on Pearl at Kalauao’s 12th hole during the first round of the 2026 Pearl at Kalauao Invitational on Nov. 4, 2026 in ‘Aiea, HI.
