GOLFERS MAKE BACK-TO-BACK ACES AT THE FOUNTAINGROVE CLUB
Fountaingrove Club members Mark Jenkins and Justin Lattanzio pulled off the nearly impossible last Thursday afternoon, making back-to-back aces on the club’s 158-yard, par-3 9thhole. Both golfers hit 8-irons and accomplished the incredible hole-in-one feat in front of an audience as the club’s new Sunset Grill overlooks the 9th green and was packed with guests. A third golfer in the group, Joe Zari, didn’t bother to hit a shot, choosing to celebrate with his playing partners instead.
According to the National Hole-In-One Registry, the odds of two people making two holes in one during the same round are roughly 64 million to 1, but back-to-back, on the same hole “it is definitely in the hundreds of millions.” Jenkins, a 3.9-handicap went on to shoot 78, while Lattanzio, a 9.6-hanicap shot a 77 — his best score on record.
Located in the hills northeast of Santa Rosa, The Fountaingrove Club is experiencing a revitalization following the Tubbs Fire of October 2017, which destroyed 5,643 structures in Santa Rosa including Fountaingrove’s clubhouse and maintenance facility.
“The back-to-back aces are absolutely incredible and to have them happen in front of members dining at The Sunset Grill is awesome,” said Ronald Banaszak, chief operating officer, The Fountaingrove Club. “It was a rough 2018 for area residents and the club following the Tubbs Fire, but I’m happy to say we’re recovering. The Fountaingrove Club and the game of golf are alive and well.”
Managed by Troon Privé, the private club operations division of Troon, The Fountaingrove Club features a beautiful Ted Robinson Sr.-designed golf course that boasts spectacular views of the Hood and Taylor Mountains as well as the rolling hills of Santa Rosa Valley. The golf course was spared from the Tubbs Fire and has remained fully operational, hosting member play and numerous tournaments.
