Hamburg, Germany – . The second oldest bank in the world is extending its partner- ship with two of golf’s most famous stars: Gary Player and Tom Watson.
“Gary and Tom are not only sporting role models for generations of golfers, they are also characterised by their commitment to the community and support our various charity projects,” says Hendrik Riehmer, managing partner of Berenberg.
Founded in 1590, the bank has long been involved in golf. In addition to Player and Watson, its brand ambassador programme includes well-known names such as Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer, José María Olazábal and Mark O’Meara.
“My relationship with Berenberg now dates back decades, and what we have accom- plished together through golf and philanthropic endeavours is one of the most im- portant aspects of my career. Their managing partner’s constant professionalism and caring nature should serve as a model of how professional athletes and businesses can work side by side to achieve an array of successes through trust and dedication to each other,” explains Gary Player. He has been a Berenberg brand ambassador since 2010 and has won 165 professional tournaments, including nine Major Champion- ships on the regular tour and nine majors on the senior tour.
“I am proud to have long standing relationship with Berenberg and look forward to representing the bank for years to come”, says Tom Watson. The US golf profes- sional has won the British Open five times, the Masters twice and the US Open once, as well as five Major victories on the Senior Tour.
The 2023 Berenberg Invitational at GlenArbor Golf Club in New York, raised more than $550,000 for pancreatic cancer research, bringing Berenberg’s donation over three tournaments to over $2,050,000 for the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine.
