Tour Edge notches their 20th Victory on the PGA TOURS since 2018
Tour Edge staff player Bernhard Langer added to his legacy Sunday at the TimberTech Championship in his hometown of Boca Raton with his 44th PGA TOUR Champions victory.
Langer moves within one of Hale Irwin’s record 45 PGA TOUR Champions titles.
He also broke his own record as oldest winner in PGA TOUR Champions history at 65 years, 2 months, and 20 days, beating the record as the oldest TOUR-sanctioned winner with his victory at the 2022 Chubb Classic.
Langer not only won this week, but he won big with six-stroke victory at Royal Palm Yacht & CC. One of the major keys to victory for Langer, as usual, was his iron play.
He played his Tour Edge Exotics forged irons to perfection, including the addition of a new prototype forged iron that he collaborated on with Tour Edge master club designer David Glod.
The new iron that was prototyped to spec out a future set for Langer went right into the bag as the PW is tagged as the “BL Proto Iron.” Langer hit 40/54 of greens in regulation for a 74% GIR rating this week.
“Bernhard is one of the best iron players in thew history of the game,” said Glod. “To have him work so closely with this new iron set was an absolute treat for me as a designer. The new BL Proto is looking good for his future game, as we matched up the offset and lie angle to his extremely consistent action. This was an extremely fin project.
“I also just want to say how impressive of a win this was,” continued Glod. “What Bernhard is doing is history on the making that may never be replicated. To watch him win at home with his entire family in attendance was extremely wholesome and really showed off the kind of guy Bernhard is. He is just incredible.”
Langer beat his age by two strokes with a 9-under 63 in the second round of the event. He then added Sunday’s low round of 66 to finish 17-under at the second of three Schwab Cup Playoffs events.
“I’m not sure there is a secret,” said Langer. “A lot of things have to come together. You’ve got to be healthy, hungry, willing to work, have a good support system, a great caddie and good coach, many, many other things.
“As I said, the willingness to put in the hours, because many people when they get to 50, 60, they’re going to say, well, I’ve had a good career and I’m going to take it a little easy and all that,” said Langer. “You can’t do that out here, there’s too many good players.”
Langer moves to No. 5 on the season-long Charles Schwab Cup standings into next week’s Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Phoenix CC.
The victory is the 20th for Tour Edge clubs in play since the company started working full-time with Champions tour players in 2018.
Tour Edge has seen more than 3,400 clubs in play by over 160 different PGA Tour professionals on the three PGA Tours over the last four seasons.
In that time, the company has earned 20 wins, 118 Top 5’s and 255 Top 10 finishes.
With the victory this week, Tour Edge has now been a part of 20 victories and 34 runner-up finishes on the PGA TOUR Champions since we started servicing the tour full-time in 2018.
That totals 54 1st and 2nd place finishes in the last 112 Champions events played (48% of all events played).
