Scottsdale, Arizona – Billy Martin, a 30-year member of the PGA of America, is establishing Billy Martin Golf at the Orlando Golf Academy in Orlando, Florida. Billy’s storied career in the game began as a player and later as a club pro in Florida. While in Florida, Billy spent valuable time caddying for and learning from Mr. Jack Nicklaus before embarking on a successful career developing top juniors and adults throughout Japan, Korea, China and Hong Kong,
“What a journey this has been,” expressed Billy during a phone interview. “I have so many great experiences and developed lifelong friendships during my time in Asia, but it is time to come back to the States. I am excited to get settled in Orlando and establish Billy Martin Golf here.”
Billy had the good fortune to learn his craft from Hall of Fame instructors Garner Dickenson, Jack Grout, Jim Flick, Mike Malaska, Martin Hall and others before heading off to Japan. At his first stop in Tokyo, Martin replaced Mike Malaska as the Director of Instruction at the Nicklaus Academy facility. Martin spent years as a Director of Instruction, Director of Education, and Academy Director at various locations for the acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Academies during 20+ years in Asia.
“I have continued to refine my craft, as they say, incorporating new information, new technologies, new equipment and new training methods, but it still comes down to ‘can you work yourself around the golf course and shoot a low number’. This is one of many takeaways from my time being on the bag for Mr. Nicklaus. You do not always have your A-Game, so you better learn how to adapt and make the swing you brought to the course that day work for you. This is what forms much of the philosophy of the BMG Approach; learning how play the game and enjoy your time on the golf course.”
Martin continued, “Fundamentals remain the basis for building a solid, repeatable swing. That can never be understated regardless of age or ability. Accessing the amazing technologies that exist helps me identify both strengths and the player’s weaknesses that need to be addressed. Utilizing the proven drills I have prescribed during my career helps players cement their swing changes. Taking their game to the course and putting their swing and putting stroke under pressure is proof we are on our way to writing down low scores. That is Job Number One.”
For Billy to maintain his personal connection with his students in Asia is accomplished using Golf Live. Billy and his students can easily connect using the Golf Live App that includes real-time video capture and replay. “It is as effective as being side by side on the lesson tee. With both of us on our phones or tablets, I can remotely capture their swing, have the video replay on both of our devices, draw lines, advance the video back and forth, pull up previous swings for side-by-side comparisons, even load in my own pre-recorded drills. The entire lesson is saved in the students’ locker for review at their convenience. This is a game changer for my students and my business. Just amazing.”
Billy Martin is available for in person lessons at the Hawk’s Landing Golf Course located at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort.
