Atlanta Course Showcases Commitment to Adaptive Golf with Championship Tournament on Oct. 15-17
Atlanta, Ga. – Bobby Jones Golf Course is pleased to announce that it will host the second annual Georgia State Golf Association Adaptive Golf Championship on Oct. 15-17. The event will welcome some of the nation’s best adaptive golfers traveling from around the country to compete in a 36-hole championship at the recently renovated Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta, Ga.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 and practice rounds begin at 9 a.m. on the same day. The first round of the Georgia State Golf Association Adaptive Golf Championship will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 at 8 a.m. and will continue Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. for the final round.
“This championship will bring some of the best talent from around the nation to play on a course specifically designed to accommodate adaptive golfers,” said Marty Elgison, president of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation. “We are proud to be at the forefront of the adaptive golf movement, and proud to honor Bobby Jones’s legacy with a course easily accessible for all players.”
Bobby Jones Golf Course recently underwent a three-year renovation and features a design that is uniquely suited to accommodate adaptive golfers. The course also serves as the home base for the Georgia State Golf Association’s adaptive golf program, a curriculum that will be shared with other facilities across the state. In addition, the course has partnered with the nationally renowned Shepherd Center to provide instruction and golf rounds to their program participants. Bobby Jones Golf Course currently hosts two separate monthly adaptive golf programs in partnership with both the GSGA and the Shepherd Center. The entire Grand Slam Golf Academy instructional staff has been trained in adaptive golf by the PGA of America to better instruct players during the monthly clinics. The staff is also available for private lessons.
The current adaptive golf program at Bobby Jones Golf Course includes adaptive golf carts to allow adaptive golfers to play the course at their convenience. Additionally, Bobby Jones Golf Course with the support of the Shepherd Center has built a special covered awning at the North Tee of the PGA TOUR Superstore Practice Facility to provide a protected instructional experience for the adaptive golf clinics.
All proceeds of the tournament will benefit the GSGA Adaptive Golf Program, which provides complimentary golf instruction to individuals with physical, cognitive and sensory challenges. In its fourth year of operation, the Adaptive Golf Program serves individuals of all ages with access to equipment and instruction at sites throughout the state. The mission of the program is to empower individuals with physical and cognitive impairments to enhance one’s life through the game of golf.

The GSGA Adaptive Golf Championship is open to players from all disability categories with a nationally recognized golf handicap index and an Access Pass or WR4GD Pass. GSGA membership and Georgia residency are not requirements. The cost to participate is $175.00 per player for this competition, with cart, practice round and range fees included in the price of registration. The event is also open for spectators, who are advised to remain on cart paths and to maintain social distancing from players and other spectators.
