DAYTON, OH – Golf Course Architect, Chris Wilczynski, ASGCA, has completed a comprehensive bunker renovation project and master plan for the Hills and Dales Courses at Community Golf Club in Dayton, OH.

Wilczynski was hired in 2021 to develop the bunker enhancement plan to address the ongoing deterioration that had been negatively impacting play for several years. The plan, executed by golf course construction company Topp Shape Enterprises Inc., included converting several existing bunkers to grass hollows, rebuilding existing bunkers and adding new bunkers to improve maintenance, playability and ultimately provide a better golf experience.

“The bunker renovation at Community Golf Course was a complete success for the City of Dayton’s last remaining golf facility,” said Bob Bajek, Golf Course Superintendent. “Chris Wilczynski’s design not only simplified daily maintenance but also aesthetically improved the entire property.  Both long-time members and casual weekend golfers are thrilled with the playability of the bunkers and new green surrounds.  We have seventy-four leagues currently playing Community’s thirty-six-hole layout and the positive response has been overwhelming.  Chris is a pleasure to work with and the entire staff at Community GC look forward to making additional improvements with him in the future,” he added.

Following the bunker project, a 36-hole master plan for both Hills and Dales courses was also completed by Wilczynski to help guide future improvements and the renovation of the entire golf facility. The intention is to phase in the recommendations from the plan to continue to improve player satisfaction and course conditioning as well as enhance the natural beauty of the 100+ year old facility.

“It’s been a wonderful experience working with the great city of Dayton and the Topp Shape team,” said Wilczynski. “What began as an extensive bunker renovation plan led to a more comprehensive road map to improve all aspects of the Hills and Dales courses and we look forward to helping the city implement the additional improvements in the future.”
