Kenosha, WI. – Caliber Golf was selected as a finalist amongst industry leaders for “Product Ingenuity – Equipment”. Dozens of nominations have been trimmed to three finalists in each category in the 30th Annual ING Industry Honors awards program. The program is conducted by the non-profit International Network of Golf to recognize outstanding achievement among its golf business members. “It is truly humbling to be recognized among such accomplished companies, we are immensely grateful for the support and encouragement that have propelled Caliber to this point. We would like to extend our appreciation to all ING members for considering us for this prestigious recognition,” said Chip Wright COO/Founder of Caliber Golf. Winners will be announced at the Industry Honors Presentation Press Conference at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando.
Golf and hockey. Hockey and golf. Both require great hand-eye coordination to be successful. Both require a strong, solid posture and proper width to execute a swing. Both require balance, stability, and control. It makes sense why so many hockey players love to play golf.
That love for hockey and golf led Kenosha, WI resident, Tim Wright, a 15-handicap, to a desperate and innovative solution in attempt to cure his dreadful putting yips.
Emulating a hockey swing, Wright designed a combination hockey stick grip and shaft to isolate the big muscles of the shoulders and neutralize the hands and wrists in the putting stroke. By positioning his right hand down the shaft as if he was making a hockey pass, the sense of control was immediate. Wright knew he was on to something and after several years of development, he and his brother, Chip, officially launched Caliber Golf at the 2023 PGA Merchandise Show earlier this year.
The combination Caliber grip and shaft reduces wrist movement, encouraging a more confident, pendulum like putting stroke. It helps to maintain a more consistent and repeatable stroke leading to improved accuracy and distance control.
“I was a 15-handicap before I invented the Caliber grip; I’m now a seven,” said Tim. “Everything in my stroke has improved. My set-up, my alignment, my pace. This takes your hands out of it. It’s all about the big muscles and having more confidence and control.”
The Caliber grip and shaft conforms to the Rules of Golf. Wisconsin native, three-time PGA Tour and 11-time Champions Tour winner and hockey enthusiast, Jerry Kelly, has been practicing with the grip and is impressed with the concept.
“When I first heard of the Caliber putter, I thought it was a cool novelty.” said Kelly. “I was surprised to learn it was legal. The aim and feel of the grip and shaft are like cheating. This is a putter I feel like I can win with on Tour.”
The Caliber putting system retails for $199. Complete putter installation including most major brands ranges from $314 to $365. Caliber Golf can also custom fit any existing putter head.
