SAN ANTONIO — Canyon Springs Golf Club, one of San Antonio’s premier golf destinations, will re-open Saturday, August 15 to the public following a four-month course renovation project.
The par-72, 7,077-yard course now boasts new TifEagle Bermuda greens and Zoysia collars. In addition, the comprehensive course renovation project included bunker reshaping and agronomic enhancements from tee to green.
“The new TifEagle greens will provide golfers with one of the area’s premier putting surfaces and allow for Tour quality speed and consistency,” said Chris Fink, General Manager of Canyon Springs Golf Club. “Our recent renovation enhances Canyon Springs status as a must-play course for golfers who live in or who are visiting the San Antonio area.”
Designed by architect and former Vice President of Gary Player Design, Thomas Walker, Canyon Springs opened in 1998 to immediate praise and was named “America’s Best New Public Golf Course” by Golf Digest and GOLF magazines. Located in an authentic, natural setting, golfers share the environment with longhorn steer, deer, and other wildlife.
The club sits on a historic Hill Country homestead — a 55,000-acre site, once the J.W. Classen Ranch — with several original elements enhancing the course’s surroundings, including a centuries-old rock well on the second hole, windmills, native stone accents and more. Canyon Springs’ signature hole — the par-4, 400-yard 18th —features a limestone waterfall, adding beauty and drama to one of the most exciting finishing holes in the Southwest.
Canyon Springs Golf Club is owned and operated by Dallas-based Arcis Golf, one of the company’s 18 clubs within Texas and 61 clubs in the United States.
Complementing this award-winning golf experience, Canyon Springs Golf Club boasts a warm and welcoming staff, charming clubhouse, and an array of services that make the club one of the Texas Hill Country’s most desirable dining and event venues.
The club is planning future enhancements to the food and beverage experience, including two, on-course roving refreshment carts, a building renovation and menu updates at the soon-to-be rebranded Cliffhaus restaurant.
The club’s authentic Texas Hill Country vibe is highlighted by country music, the smell of savory smoke, and the taste of Texas BBQ woven throughout menus at Cliffhaus and the 19th Hole Bar & Grill. New menu selections will include house-smoked meats, Tex-Mex favorites, and Arcis Golf’s signature Crushburger and hand-cut fries.
The golf course renovation and upcoming food and beverage upgrades are part of Arcis Golf’s dedication to reinventing the modern club and guest experience.
“Arcis Golf is committed to enhancing service levels, amenities, and experiences at our facilities nationwide,” said Blake S. Walker, Founder and CEO of Arcis Golf. “Canyon Springs is one of the very special courses in our portfolio and being able to bring it to the next level will solidify its pedigree among both San Antonio and Texas’ top public courses.”
