Carr Golf Celebrates 30th Anniversary at Pebble Beach Resorts
Exclusive Edition of World Invitational Father & Son Tournament Held on Renowned Courses
Carr Golf – Ireland, England and Scotland’s premier provider of unforgettable golf experiences – celebrated 30 years of father and son golf on May 5 – 7 with a special anniversary event hosted at iconic Pebble Beach Resorts, which will welcome the U.S. Open in June.
This year marks the 100-year anniversary of Pebble Beach as Carr Golf also celebrates 30 years in play. The first round of the event was played at the Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed Spyglass Hill Golf Course, often regarded as the sternest test on the Monterey Peninsula. The second round was played on Pebble Beach Golf Links where full preparations for the U.S. Open are underway.
In a Q&A session during the event with GOLF Channel’s Matt Ginella and Pebble Beach’s director of golf John Sawin, both provided insights on the preparations involved on U.S. Open course set-up. Fairway widths have been reduced by up to a third as intensive preparations ramp-up with the arrival of hundreds of volunteer head greenskeepers from around the world.
The international gathering featured teams from the U.S., Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Ireland and U.K. playing a better ball Stableford format over 36 holes. The unique occasion included three nights’ accommodation at the five-star Lodge at Pebble Beach, welcome reception, daily meals, awards ceremony and tournament sponsors’ gift pack. Carr Golf was delighted to fly the GlobalGolf4Cancer flag on the signature 7th hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links for the duration of the event.
The championship net flight was won by Eddie and Spencer Cue from Los Altos Country Club with a score of 83 points. The gross flight was won by Mark and Mike Zausmer from Bear Lakes Country Club and Franklyn Hills Country Club with an impressive score of 73 points. The adopted flight was won by Eduardo Estefno and Fabio Igel from San Paulo Golfe Clube in Brazil with a score of 79 points. Michael Zausmer, who works for the Jack Nicklaus organization, won the putting contest with a score of 3 under par.
“Pebble Beach is one of the iconic golf venues in the world and hosting this event was a perfect way to celebrate both our birthdays,” says Marty Carr, executive chairman of Carr Golf. “We look forward to continuing our celebrations with a large presence at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, followed by our 12th Annual Father & Daughter and 30th Annual Father & Son tournaments, as well as finishing the season with the 2nd Annual Donald Ross Pro Am hosted at Scotland’s Royal Dornoch in late September.
