Carr Golf Offers Exceptional Summer Getaways to the Emerald Isle
World-Class Courses Include Ardglass, Old Head, Portstewart, Royal County Down, The Island
Carr Golf – Ireland, England and Scotland’s premier provider of unforgettable golf vacations – presents exceptional Irish summer golf itineraries now available on world-class designs including Ardglass Golf Club, Old Head Golf Links, Portstewart Golf Club, Royal County Down Golf Club and The Island Golf Club.
With the 148th Open Championship returning to Northern Ireland’s Royal Portrush Golf Club this summer for the first time in 68 years, there has never been a better time to play the magnificent courses of the Emerald Isle. Carr Golf supplies unrivaled customer care for groups of all sizes featuring luxury accommodations, transportation, sightseeing, fine dining, caddies and anything else needed for stress-free, extraordinary golf vacations. Below are a few “must plays.”
Home to the world’s oldest clubhouse dating back to 1405 AD, Ardglass Golf Club is as natural of a course as you’ll find. With multiple holes overlooking the stunning panoramas of the Irish Sea, the course’s defense comes from the constant winds which wail year-round across the exposed layout. Located just 35 minutes from Belfast, Ardglass is an exhilarating golf course architectural aficionados should certainly play.
Located on a jagged peninsula overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Old Head Golf Links offers guests no shortage of magnificent sights. Co-designed by Carr Golf’s namesake, J.B. Carr, Old Head is built on 220 acres of diamond-shaped land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean for nearly two miles. The wonderfully manicured layout overlooks the stately black-and white-striped lighthouse for a truly memorable view.
As host of the European Tour’s 2017 Irish Open in partnership with Rory McIlroy, Portstewart Golf Club is known as one of Northern Ireland’s best links layouts. The par-72 championship Strand Course embraces the Causeway Coast, creating one of the most remarkable starting holes in golf. In addition, guests can visit the nearby Giant’s Causeway – a mesmerizing collection of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Situated two hours from Portrush is Golf Digest’s No. 1 course in the world, Royal County Down. Set against Northern Ireland’s highest mountain, Slieve Donard, the iconic Old Tom Morris layout is known for its “bearded” bunkers, red fescue and lively heather. With unnervingly narrow fairways interlacing between daunting sand dunes, Royal County Down is as difficult as it is strikingly beautiful.
Last but certainly not least, The Island Golf Club, situated 15 minutes from Dublin Airport, delivers an extraordinary setting bordered on three sides by the sea. With imposing sand hills guarding much of the terrain, The Island has affectionately been called, “the Lahinch of the east coast.” Host of the 2019 Amateur Championship and former site of the 1999 Irish PGA Championship, The Island offers a stern challenge that still allows the recreational golfer a worthwhile opportunity to savor its unique charm, elegant vistas and diverse design.
“Our goal is to deliver exceptional experiences and memories our guests will look back fondly on for years to come,” says Marty Carr, executive chairman of Carr Golf. “We invite one and all to enjoy the Emerald Isle’s incredible natural beauty and gracious hospitality while playing some of the world’s finest links courses.”
2019 is a significant milestone for the thriving Dublin-based company as it enters its 30th year of business. Carr Golf also works closely with other world-class layouts in Ireland including Tralee Golf Club, Waterville Golf Links and Lahinch Golf Club as well as lesser known gems including Carne Golf Links, Enniscrone Golf Club and Dooks Golf Club.
