Carr Golf Announces Results of Celebrated Annual Family Tournaments
Father and Son / Father and Daughter Events Both Held on Renowned Waterville Golf Links
Carr Golf – Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice Award Winner for “Best Tour Operator” four years in a row – announces the winners of its two celebrated annual family tournaments.
Ireland’s Dermot and Dery Desmond won the 30th Annual World Invitational Father & Son Tournament held Aug. 7 – 11. The Canadian team of Rocky and Paige Downton captured the World Invitational Father & Daughter Tournament held July 23 – 26. Both events were held at the acclaimed Waterville Golf Links in Southwest Ireland.
The events were presented in partnership with LINKSOUL, OGIO, Oscar Jacobson, Redbreast Whiskey, Newbridge Silverware, Ping and Foray Golf. Carr Golf hosted 96 teams from 13 countries at the Father & Son Tournament, as well as 40 teams from the Father & Daughter Tournament from across the globe. Both exceptional events featured golf, accommodations, meals, tournament gift pack, transfers and nightly entertainment including receptions and gala dinners.
Playing out of Ireland’s K Club, Dermont and Dery Desmond finished with a total of 126 points in the three-day Stableford scoring competition to secure the championship division.
With a three-day total of 104, Billy and Will McGriff from TPC Sawgrass in Florida won the gross division on the second playoff hole over Martin and Daniel Connolly of The Olympic Club in California. The playoff was an epic shootout between two young talents, as Will McGriff has verbally committed to the University of Florida golf team and Daniel Connolly enters his senior year this fall at Southern Methodist University.
Playing out of Red Deer Golf and Country Club in Alberta, the Downton duo claimed the 36-hole net victory with a total of 96 points in the “Better Ball Stableford” format. Chris and Kyle Fraser of Shady Oaks Country Club in Texas secured their win in the gross division by three points.
‘With special thanks to LINKSOUL, OGIO, Oscar Jacobson, Redbreast Whiskey, PING, Newbridge Silverware and Foray Golf, our 2019 events were a smashing success,” says Marty Carr, CEO of Carr Golf. “Our formula of good golf, good fun and good friends is a powerful mix, especially when it includes families and is played over one of the great golf courses and nicest places on Earth.”
Carr added, “Teams hailing from the world of business, sports and media all joined to create a truly exceptional and diverse tournament field. The lifelong memories and friendships built in these storied events grow fonder each year. We hosted a successful Father and Son Tournament event at Pebble Beach in May and are planning another event at Pinehurst next year in October. Following this year’s incredible success, we have already received over 100 applications for our 2020 events.”
