BEAUFORT, SC – Cat Island Club has enjoyed a storied history since opening in 1985. The George Cobb-designed 18-hole championship golf course, resting on the southern tip of Cat Island near Beaufort, SC, opened to rave reviews and has continued to be a favorite semi-private golf course for the area residents and visitors.
Now, Cat Island Club is about to begin a new chapter. Resort Development Partners of Virginia recently purchased the beautiful property and made the decision to transform Cat Island into a fully private club. The Grand Opening of the new Cat Island Club will be this Memorial Day Weekend, with many activities on the schedule.
“The first time I saw the property, I knew it was ideal for a private club,” said W. Douglas White, principal of Resort Development Partners. “The residents of Cat Island have welcomed us the new owners, and our organization is respectful of the opportunity to enhance the lifestyle of Cat Island.”
The essence of Cat Island Club can be found in its natural environment, right in the heart of the Lowcountry. Whether it’s a salty breeze as you line up your next shot or the alligators protecting the 18th green, the character of the Cat Island Club is formed by the natural state of the island.
The Lowcountry and exceptional marshland views frame six of the challenging 18 holes, and its back-to-back waterfront par-3’s are unique and spectacular.
Members, their families and guests now enjoy exceptional Club amenities.
- 18-hole golf course designed by George W. Cobb (renovated summer 2022)
- State of the art Golf practice facilities
- Resort-style Pool, adult and family pool along with a poolside cabana
- Renovated Clubhouse with casual low-country themed dining indoors and outdoors
- More extensive clubhouse renovations planned in 2024.
“We have a lot of exciting things planned for Cat Island above and beyond what we have already accomplished,” said White. “This is a family-oriented cub but we have several different types of memberships and levels to meet any need. Among our objectives is to simply enhance what Mother Nature has created here at Cat Island.”
The Grand Opening festivities kick off this Friday at 12 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first tee with the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce. All club and Chamber members are invited. Other events include a golf tournament on Saturday as part of the nationwide Folds Of Honor fund-raiser, a Patriotic Flag Raising on Sunday at 2:30, and a Memorial Day picnic at 2 p.m. on Monday.
