N.C. Native to Further Enhance Local, Regional Culinary Connections
(HENDERSONVILLE, N.C.) – Champion Hills, Western North Carolina’s premier golf community featuring Tom Fazio’s acclaimed mountain golf masterpiece, has named Stephan Stansfield Food and Beverage Director.
A native of Wrightsville Beach, Stansfield comes to Champion Hills from The Horseshoe Farm, a luxury boutique resort in Hendersonville with an award-winning culinary operation. Prior to that he enjoyed tenures at Rezaz Mediterranean Cuisine in Asheville and Bluewater Waterfront Grill in Wrightsville Beach. His managerial experience ranges from executing fast-paced corporate concepts to working with locally-owned restaurants preparing for national expansion.
“Stephan brings a great deal of experience and energy to our food and beverage team,” says Champion Hills General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Dana Schultz. “He’s joining forces with our new Executive Chef, Blake Johnson, and we’re excited to see where their creativity and leadership take us.”
Stansfield graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with dual degrees in Business Finance and Spanish Language Arts. Growing up along the coast as an avid surfer, he developed a love for fresh seafood and other Carolina culinary staples. He plans to work closely with Johnson and the Champion Hills food and beverage team to introduce new regionally-inspired touches to the menu.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with this incredible team and to serve our membership here at Champion Hills,” Stansfield says. “This is an amazing club and community in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of the country. From farm fresh produce and locally-sourced meats and dairy, to regional spirits, wines and craft beers, there’s so much opportunity to pull even more of North Carolina into what we do here.”
Champion Hills is off to a fast start in 2021 as Western North Carolina continues to be one of the most sought-after relocation and retirement regions in the U.S. The luxury community just minutes from downtown Hendersonville and 30 minutes from Asheville offers both resale homes and custom-building lots. Its Fazio-designed golf course is one of the top-rated layouts in the state and is widely considered one of renowned architect’s crowning achievements.
The club’s food and beverage operations include the upscale, intimate Mountain View Room with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Fazio Pub, recently reimagined by The Design Gallery. The casual dining restaurant and bar was updated with new finishes, fixtures, furniture and a wine room with community feasting table. Two new bars were created, one for martinis, unique cocktails and wine, and the other a sports bar with flat screen TVs and local craft beers on tap.
