JACK BURKE’S PASSES REIGNS AT CHAMPIONS GOLF CLUB TO NEXT GENERATION

October 4, 2021

To our members and friends at Champions Golf Club,

Robin and I are pleased to announce that effective October 1st, ownership of Champions Golf Club has been transitioned to my son, Mike Burke, and grandson, Dean Burke. This has been in the works for some time and has been conducted with great care, with the interests and needs of our members and employees foremost in our minds.

Our goal always has been to serve our members, employees, and surrounding community to the utmost, as they have meant the world to us for 64 years. We make this announcement with assurance to you that the best parts of Champions—it’s culture, integrity, and reputation as one of the finest clubs in the world—will remain intact.

For the time being, we will see only minor changes in the administration of our fine club. I will remain on as chairman, and Dean Burke will assume leadership of Champions Golf Club as president.

Please know that Robin and I effected this transition with great thought and a careful eye for the future. We are especially gratified that ownership of Champions is remaining in the Burke family. Mike and Dean collectively bring extensive business experience and proven skill to their ownership roles. Golf has always been a central part of their lives, and they possess a deep understanding of the game and what members want to derive from the club. Champions is in good hands.

On a personal note, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Champions membership for their loyalty, support, and contributions they’ve made to the club and the Burke family. I also want to acknowledge Robin for her dedication and perseverance, especially during the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. Her efforts and leadership during the U.S. Women’s Open—the fifth prominent USGA event we’ve staged—were exceptional.

It’s my great hope that together, we will continue to keep the game going strong at Champions, and help our club embody the very best in golf and life.

See you on the putting green!

About Champions Club

Ask Jack Burke or Jimmy Demaret when they first decided to build a golf course of their own and neither can remember an exact time or place that the subject was discussed.

Individually, they nurtured the idea of building a course during most of their playing careers. And although they had developed a strong friendship early in life that was to stand the test of time, their coming together as partners in the spectacularly successful venture that was to become Champions Golf Club was almost by accident.

In late 1956 almost everything was “go”. The land was bought, partnerships had been formed, building architects and land planners were employed, and Demaret’s old friend from Hermann Park days (Ralph Plummer) was to build the course. With a lot of help from James Newton Demaret and Jack Burke, of course.
Thus was created one of the most beautiful club settings in American golf which has achieved a well-earned reputation for hosting high-profile events. Enjoy exploring the our history below!
