COLUMBUS COUNTRY CLUB’S CHASE WILSON NAMED ONE OF OHIO’S BEST GOLF INSTRUCTORS BY GOLF DIGEST
Columbus, Ohio (January 16, 2020) – Columbus Country Club’s Director of Instruction Chase Wilson has been recognized by Golf Digest as one Ohio’s best golf instructors. Every two years Golf Digest honors the “The Best Teachers in America” in their December/January issue. In 2019/2020, a total of 651 golf instructors were honored by Golf Digest as “Best in State,” including 17 in Ohio. Instructors are ranked by their peers with results tabulated by Golf Digest.
Wilson, winner of the 2017 Ohio Open, has been the director of instruction at Columbus Country Club since 2018. An accomplished amateur golfer dating back to his days at Zanesville High School in Zanesville, Ohio, Wilson qualified for the 2020 PGA Professional Championship by virtue of placing third in the 2019 Ohio PGA Section Championship. The PGA Professional Championship will be played at Omni Barton Creek in Austin, Texas in April.
“Chase is an outstanding instructor and communicator,” said Ryan Coll, director of golf, Columbus Country Club. “His ability to convey golf instruction in simple, easy to digest terms has helped many members improve their golf games. This recognition by Golf Digest is well deserved.”
At Columbus Country Club, Wilson leads the historic club’s numerous golf instruction programs, including junior golf academies and leagues, as well as private lessons for members and guests of all ages and skill levels.
Managed by Troon Privé, the private club operating division of Troon, Columbus Country Club boasts an 18-hole championship golf course, a nine-hole executive course, along with eight tennis courts, a large swimming pool, spacious clubhouse and a diverse entertainment calendar.

About Columbus Country Club
The grounds of Columbus Country Club were first developed by Orlando A. Miller in 1903 as a horseman’s club with bridle paths throughout the estate. It wasn’t long before the land eventually gave way to the sport of golf. Originally a nine-hole course designed by Tom Bendelow in 1907, the golf course at Columbus Country Club has had the hands of many renown golf course architects involved in its development including Harry Colt, Dick Wilson and Geoffrey Cornish, but it was Donald Ross who had the most influence on the course’s character and overall design. Ross renovated Columbus Country Club several times between 1915 and 1940. In 2018, the Club completed an extensive course renovation project. Led by golf course architect Kevin Hargrave, the renovation focused on the original design concepts of famed golf course architect Donald Ross, while restoring the proper scale back to the Columbus Country Club property.
In 1964 Columbus Country Club played host to the PGA Championship. This event saw a thrilling finish between two of golf’s titans, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, along with eventual winner Bobby Nichols. Columbus Country Club has also hosted two additional PGA TOUR events – the Columbus Invitational in 1946 and 1947, won by Byron Nelson and Bobby Locke respectively.
Columbus Country Club has hosted the Ohio State Amateur four times (most recently in 2004), and was the host course for the 1957 and 1987 Ohio State Mid-Amateur. The historic Donald Ross design will again host the Ohio State Amateur in 2020.
