Nick Longley and Bill Bales Join Forces to Reinvent the Instrumented Range Experience
Waterville, Ohio — Clarity.Golf today announced a long-term strategic alliance with InRange, founded by Nick Longley, to integrate Clarity’s Cicero framework into InRange’s global network of instrumented driving ranges.
This alliance is a rare meeting of two worlds: Nick Longley’s instrumented-range revolution and Bill Bales’ decades-long work in golf measurement, instruction systems, and simulation. Together, they intend to turn the modern driving range into something far larger than a place to hit balls—an engine for lifelong learning, competition, and measurable improvement.
As part of the agreement, Clarity.Golf will deliver a bespoke, instrumented-range derivative of Cicero, designed specifically for InRange bays. This implementation will be free to use in every InRange bay, with a full commercial license provided to InRange range owners worldwide.
More than a range feature, the Cicero-for-InRange system is being built as a comprehensive performance application that functions on-range, off-range, and independently of the measurement tools utilized. Golfers will be able to use the same Cicero intelligence layer at home, at the range, and across their entire golf life.
Each user will receive a personalized intelligence layer, built on a dedicated large-language-model architecture that continuously tracks, analyzes, and recursively learns from the individual’s motion, performance patterns, learning history, and developmental trajectory over time.
This personalized layer evolves with the golfer, updating its understanding of tendencies, readiness, and needs across years and decades—creating a persistent, longitudinal performance profile unique to each individual.
At the range, Cicero integrates directly with InRange’s instrumentation to contextualize real-time ball flight and motion data within the golfer’s broader learning history. Away from the range, the same intelligence continues to operate through a smartphone-based application, enabling continuity rather than isolated sessions.
“Nick built the modern instrumented range,” said Bill Bales, founder of Clarity.Golf. “Now we’re going to reinvent what that range means. This is a once-in-a-generation pairing—two different legacies, one shared direction—and it will change what golfers can do, what ranges can offer, and what the off-course game becomes.”
Central to the alliance is Cicero’s core belief that measurement is becoming software. As accuracy increases and cost collapses, the opportunity shifts from capturing isolated data to orchestrating insight across environments, modalities, and time.
The Cicero system will be launched publicly during Masters Week 2026.
The Cicero-for-InRange system is structured around Clarity’s 3P learning framework—Potentiality, Precision, and Power—ensuring that feedback, guidance, and challenge are sequenced appropriately based on the golfer’s psychological readiness, technical stability, and athletic expression.
The alliance also introduces an InRange World Youth Development and Range Competition Program, aligned with the Cicero World Junior Golf Rankings. This program connects range-based participation with structured development pathways, competition, and long-term progression for junior golfers worldwide.
In addition, Cicero-for-InRange incorporates Clarity’s patent-pending Virtual Practitioner technology—a virtual instructional interface that translates ground-truth measurement and science into a human-centered teaching experience. The Virtual Practitioner presents as a “friendly pro” in the bay, delivering guidance face-on, in real time, while remaining anchored to validated measurement rather than personality-driven interpretation.
The system allows for practitioner customization and persona expression without compromising measurement integrity. In this model, gurus do not disappear—they persist as persona and provenance, not as arbiters of truth.
A golfer may choose to receive instruction styled in the voice of a historic figure such as Harvey Penick, while the underlying guidance remains governed by modern science, high-fidelity measurement, and Cicero’s stewardship framework.
The alliance reflects a shared belief between Clarity.Golf and InRange that the future of off-course golf lies in continuity, intelligence, and accessibility—not in fragmented experiences or closed platforms.
Further details regarding global rollout, youth programs, and expanded Cicero-for-InRange capabilities will be announced in the coming months.
