CLEATED FOOTWEAR GOES FIVE FOR FIVE OVER THE WEEKEND; INCLUDING TWO MORE MAJORS
BRENTWOOD, Tenn., – Just a week after completing a sweep of the four men’s majors, PrideSports is pleased to announce that the winners of all five professional tour events over the weekend chose to wear footwear featuring replaceable cleat technology over spikeless/tennis shoes.
This includes the winners of the Senior Open Championship and the LPGA Tour’s Evian Championship, giving cleated footwear two more major championships. At the Senior Open, the winner was wearing adidas® Tour360 golf shoes with ThinTech Pins cleats. The major champion at the Evian Championship was wearing Nike® React Vapor 2 shoes with Champ® Pivix cleats.
“The winning percentage this year for players on the PGA TOUR wearing cleats is over 90 percent,” said John Hohman, senior vice president of marketing for PrideSports®. “We’re seeing this pretty much across all of the professional tours as the players are looking for any advantage possible to improve their games. Professionals around the globe agree that it all starts from the base…and having footwear featuring replaceable cleats allows for optimum traction, performance and comfort.”
This trend continued with the world’s number one ranked golfer who wore Nike Premiere Golf Shoes with Champ Zarma Tour cleats in his three-stroke victory in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Twenty-one of the top 26 finishers in the World Golf Championship event chose to wear footwear featuring cleats.
Cleats were also on the shoes of the winner of the PGA TOUR’s Barracuda Classic who was wearing adidas shoes with ThinTech cleats. At that event, 25 of the top 35 finishers chose replaceable cleat technology over spikeless/tennis shoes. The weekend was topped off with the winner of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Classic wearing adidas golf shoes with ThinTech XP cleats.
Replacement Softspikes® and Champ® cleats can be purchased in the golf section of most large retailers, sporting goods stores, golf specialty and golf course pro shops across the country. Cleats can also be purchased online from any of these locations, your favorite online store or directly from www.golfspikes.com.
PrideSports is the undisputed leader in the golf cleat segment with its CHAMP and Softspikes brands. The company recommends golfers change their cleats every six to eight months – or even more frequently based on use – to ensure golfers get the maximum performance out of their footwear.
CHAMP’s Helix®, Zarma Tour® and Stinger® cleats, as well as Softspikes’ Pivix®, Pulsar®, Silver Tornado® and Stealth® cleats, dominate the OEM and secondary market in terms of performance and sales. More information can be found at at www.champspikes.comand www.softspikes.com.
