Team prepares for the PGA Junior Regional Championship
Tucson, Ariz. – The Club at Skyline’s Junior PGA Golf team, consisting of eight players ranging from 12 to 13 years of age, has achieved a remarkable ranking of 2nd in the nation by the Junior PGA League. The number two national ranking is based on overall team score and was announced following the team’s combined 70-under-par performance in the Southwest Arizona qualifying tournament held recently in Tucson.
According to Chris Dompier, head golf professional at Skyline and the team’s coach, “The number two ranking is an incredible achievement given that Skyline is a relatively small club competing against much larger clubs each with a larger pool of players to draw from. Our players work hard at their game and all the practice and dedication is paying off. We are excited to get the chance to compete for the national junior championship.”
The team’s next challenge comes on September 15-17, 2023 when they travel to Santa Rosa, California to compete against seven other teams in PGA Junior League Regional Championship. The winner of this match will go on to Frisco, Texas to compete against 12 teams from across the U.S. in the national championship tournament. It is golf’s version of baseball’s Little League World Series and will be televised nationally.
The team’s number one player, Parker Servoss carries a two handicap. Despite his young age of 13, Parker won Skyline’s men’s golf championship in 2023. Parker already has two holes-in-one in his young golf career. The other members of the eight-player team are: Kallum De Guia, Eddie Tsai, Jake Martinez, Brody Olayvar, Alex Ramos, Jackson Caldwell, and Wesley Weltman. The junior program at Skyline has existed for the past five years. It is open to boys and girls from the ages of 5 to 13. The current Skyline program consists of 62 boys and girls. The Junior PGA has grown rapidly with almost 70,000 participants nationally.
“Watching our junior program grow over the past few years has been a dream come true,” added Dompier. “It has kept myself and my assistant coach Jeff Schettek is busy with practices and matches. I know we are just a little country club from a small town, but we’ve got a real chance to win it all. I have taught thousands of kids over the last 30 years, but this group is outstanding!”
