The All Pro Tour (APT) not only serves as a path to the PGA TOUR for many professional golfers, but integrates the support of charitable contributions throughout many of its events, including the Coke Dr. Pepper Open.
The Coke Dr. Pepper Open is not only the APT’s largest field and highest purse, but it is one of the most impactful fundraisers for a charity within Alexandria, Louisiana, known as the Manna House.
The Manna House is a nonprofit organization that brings home-cooking to the table for anyone in need of a meal. No one is ever turned away and the doors are never closed within the hours of serving food. All donations go towards providing meals for those who are hungry.
“This is the sixth year this tournament has benefited the Manna House,” said Theresa Slater, Tournament Director of the Coke Dr. Pepper Open. “The majority of our sponsors have been donors since the very birth of this tournament and we couldn’t do it without them. For them to sponsor this event for 19 years is phenomenal. It shows that people believe in supporting the community and its coalition with the APT is impactful.”
Daily meals can be made possible for those in need with the help of sponsors and generous donors. Coca Cola, the title sponsor of this event, frequently donates food that others can take home in addition to the meals that are cooked in-house.
Not to mention, this annual tournament is known around the city to be one of the greatest highlights of the year. Jessica Viator, the Executive Director of the Manna House explored the economic impact this event has on the organization, let alone the city of Alexandria.
“Last year, the Manna House generated $83,000 from the golf tournament alone,” said Viator. “Sponsorships, pro-am spots, these are some of the many ways that your generosity supports a ministry such as the Manna House.”
Over 67,000 people were given meals from the Manna House last year and many are still in need after the state of Louisiana suffered through Hurricane Ida and the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Any amount of monetary donations are always welcomed and appreciated, in addition to non-perishable food items. One plate of food equals five dollars, and for someone in need this makes a world of difference.
