Colony West Reveals Greens Renovation
Colony West Golf Club – a Billy Casper Golf-managed club 15 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale – reopened its Championship Course after renovating all 18 greens.
The four-month project returned the greens to their original size and transitioned the turf to Tiff Eagle bermudagrass. In addition, the irrigation system was updated and sand was added to the greenside bunkers. There were also enhancements to improve the cart paths.
“We are thrilled to unveil the Championship Course’s new and improved putting surfaces,” says Dan Zimmer, BCG VP of Operations. “This was the first greens renovation since the course was built in 1971 and the increase in size will allow for new and exciting pin placements.”
The greens renovation was the first project in an aggressive renovation program which includes the addition of a 107-room Fairfield Inn, new clubhouse, and new cart barn, which are scheduled to be completed by early 2020.
Opened in 1971 for the Jackie Gleason Classic (renamed the Honda Classic), Colony West’s Championship Course remains one of the most challenging layouts in South Florida. The par 65 Glades Course is a perfect complement to the Championship Course as the executive layout is ideal for those new to the game. The City of Tamarac purchased the courses in 2011 and brought on BCG to manage the facility in 2013.
