HOUSTON – Concert Golf Partners has acquired two private clubs in the Houston area: Northgate Country Club and Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, from private club industry veteran Dan McIntyre. This acquisition marks Concert Golf’s entry into the Texas market.
As the 31st and 32nd private clubs within the Concert portfolio, these acquisitions represent another significant step forward in its mission to preserve and enhance premier private country clubs across the United States.
McIntyre, who bought Walden in 2004 and Northgate in 2012, chose Concert Golf Partners as his successor after investigating a broad field of buyers, including other owner-operators.
“It is obvious that Concert Golf is committed to preserving and enhancing the culture that I worked hard to create at the Clubs,” said McIntyre. “Their experience and efficiency throughout our interaction made the decision easy.”
“Dan McIntyre has built two incredible clubs in Houston, and we are looking forward to maintaining and enhancing the clubs, and preserving the strong legacy,” said Concert Golf Partners Senior Vice President Jordan Peace. “We’re excited to invest millions of dollars into the Clubs over the coming years, all at no cost or assessment to the members, while continuing to provide an exceptional membership experience. There is more work to do to determine where we will put that capital to work, but a substantial portion of it will go towards irrigation.”
Established in 1983, Northgate Country Club is considered North Houston’s premier golf club and the centerpiece of the upscale Northgate Forest community.
Northgate features 18 holes of Championship Golf designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, an executive 5-hole course aptly named the “Fast-Five,” eight lighted tennis courts, three pools, and a clubhouse for member dining, social events, and the member-favorite Sunday Brunch.
Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, located 45 minutes north of Northgate on beautiful Lake Conroe, opened in 1976. Previously, Golf Digest ranked Walden Golf Club as the best course in the Houston area; and the 5th best in the state of Texas. In addition, GOLF Magazine once ranked the par 5, 11th hole as one of the top 500 holes in the world. Due to its prestige, Walden has hosted significant events over the years including the TGA South Amateur Championship, Women’s Texas Cup, and PGA Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying School. Holes 11 – 13, situated on a peninsula, are notoriously challenging and commonly referred to as the “Walden Triangle,” a nod to the Bermuda Triangle.
Working jointly with Concert Golf, Walden Golf Club will also continue to host the annual “Golfers Against Cancer” fundraiser.
“Golfers Against Cancer is an organization that is near and dear to my heart,” added McIntyre. “Over the last several years, I’ve hosted an annual tournament for Golfers Against Cancer at Walden, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research. I was concerned about the future of this event once I retired, and when I brought that up with the Concert team over dinner one night, they immediately agreed to continue hosting it at no cost to the organization, and added that commitment to our purchase agreement days later.”
