Cordillera Ranch Director of Instruction Named Top 100 Teacher in America
Golf Magazine Bestows Honor to Bryan Gathright for 19th Straight Year
(BOERNE, Texas) – Cordillera Ranch – the Hill Country’s premier luxury and golf community – congratulates Director of Instruction Bryan Gathright for being named one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America for the 19th consecutive year.
Gathright, who has received this honor since 2001, was one of the seven Texans recognized on this prestigious list and the only one from the Texas Hill Country. According to GOLF Magazine, Top 100 Teachers in America candidates were screened against 15 baseline criteria, including their teaching experience and accomplishments, student portfolios and peer ratings, along with their overall commitment to the growth of the game, both through volunteerism and their ability to use digital platforms.
A fixture in the San Antonio golf community Gathright came to Cordillera Ranch in 2016 from San Antonio’s Oak Hill Country Club. He was the original director of instruction at both the La Cantera Golf Academy and the Harvey Penick Golf Academy – where he worked alongside the teaching legend for nearly three years.
A year ago, his pupils – Mitchell Meissner, Levi Valadez and McClure “Mac” Meissner – finished in the top-3 of the Texas State Amateur. Others who have flourished under Gathright’s tutelage include Jimmy Walker and Notah Begay III. Another Gathright student, Toni Hakula, won the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica’s Bupa Match Play Championship in 2018. Gathright has taught numerous other PGA, Champions and LPGA Tour professionals, and over 200 high school golfers who have gone on to play collegiate golf.
“Congratulations to Bryan for his recognition once again as one of the best instructors in the country,” says Charlie Hill, President and Chief Operating Officer of DH Investments, developer of Cordillera Ranch. “To be considered a Top 100 Teacher in America for 19 consecutive years is a remarkable achievement; in fact, only a select few can boast a Top 100 in America tenure as long or longer than Gathright’s. His commitment to instruction and making the game more enjoyable for his students is unrivaled.”
Gathright will help open the Golf Performance Center at Cordillera Ranch later this spring. Designed by renowned architect Jim Terrian, the Golf Performance Center at Cordillera Ranch will feature two bays on the west end of the club’s Practice Park. Each bay – sophisticatedly constructed by industry leader Tim Cutshall – will have a Flightscope Launch Monitor, which provides an innovative combination of 3D Doppler Tracking and image processing. Cutshall, who was recently featured in LINKS Magazine, installed the radar so that it integrates with camera and video data, and provides instructors and students launch characteristics of each shot.
Each bay will also have a three-camera system integrated with the Flightscope Launch Monitor to provide instant feedback on every shot and help instructors develop a custom plan for improvement. Flightscope technology will also improve the Cordillera Ranch instruction staff’s club fitting capabilities.
In addition, the Golf Performance Center at Cordillera Ranch will be one of the few facilities in Texas to offer the Swing Catalyst 3D Motion Plate. The flagship swing analysis system provides a unique combination of the state-of-the-art pressure plate technology (Balance Plate) and a highly-advanced force plate. This enables instructors to study detailed foot pressure data and center of pressure patterns. The 3D Motion Plate also provides horizontal and vertical force measurements of the amount of torque and ground reaction forces generated during each swing. This data is invaluable information for analysis throughout the golf swing as the ground is the source of power and energy in the swing. The 3D data is perfectly synchronized with high-speed video images and Flightscope Launch Monitor technology.
