(NAPLES, Fla.) – Golf Life Navigators (GLN) – the world’s only virtual marketplace for consumer-to-club connections – has recently completed a study on private club seeking buyers with regards to their feelings toward waitlists and the marketplace for a golf home.
In a recent survey to private club prospective members, Golf Life Navigators found that 65% of buyers say they are “not at all likely” to “not likely” to enter into a waitlist scenario with a club that has a waitlist of 12 months or longer. In addition, 70% said they are “not at all likely” to “not likely” to purchase a home in a golf community that has a waitlist for a golf membership.
“Over the past several months, we have received requests from the club industry to help them better understand how prospective members are viewing a waitlisted club,” says Jason Becker, CEO of Golf Life Navigators. “Our ecosystem of golf buyers is active and willing to share their feedback with industry leaders. We were thrilled to conduct the survey and provide insight to our industry colleagues; however, a bit concerned with the results.”
Golf Life Navigators’ waitlist survey was comprised of fourteen questions gaining buyer sentiment toward waitlists and an understanding of their basic knowledge of how waitlists function, including:
- How familiar are you with waitlists for a full golf membership into a private club?
- How much of a down payment would you be willing to make to hold your position on a waitlist?
- What amenity access is important to you as a waitlisted member?
- What is the likelihood that you change markets based upon the current waitlist time frame?
The survey produced more than 200,000 data points and was organized to show different tiers of initiation budgets to align with any club in the private club industry. Based upon the survey results, the position of Golf Life Navigators is that clubs should be cautious about eliminating new member recruitment programs and halting waitlist enrollment. The likelihood of waitlist dilution for clubs is clear based upon the current market conditions for both golf memberships and golf homes.
