Location – BOOTH 1308 PGA MERCHANDISE SHOW 2019, Orlando, Florida USA
JACK NICKLAUS, while visiting Honda Classic at PGA National this year, said “For the good of the game we need to play this game in about 3 ½ hours on a daily basis”. Course Ranger, pace of Play technology is the solution.
Course Ranger offers a viable and affordable system for golf clubs across the world who are affected by the issue of Slow Play. Course Ranger’s pace of play technology, provides objective and verifyable answers to the pace of play questions that golf clubs everywhere have been trying to answer. The Course Ranger system is currently in use on 9 courses in the Florida area. An example of one of our courses, PGA NATIONAL, PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA, USA, has seen consistent reductions in round times of up to 45 minutes on shotguns and 25 minutes on tee sheet times.
JANE BRODERICK, Director of Golf at PGA National, says.
“Here at PGA National, Course Ranger is a home run slam dunk application; with a subtle reminder at every hole, golfers know where they stand; being able to pick up that 30 to 40 minutes on a round is huge”.
The concept behind the Course Ranger system is simple, Let the golfers know what their pace of play is at each hole and they will adjust their own pace before it becomes a problem for everyone.
On each hole a solar/battery powered intelligent light post is placed near the tee box. As the golfer approaches the post, a coloured light is displayed.
- Green means you’re on Pace or you are keeping up with the group in front.
- Amber means you’re starting to fall behind Pace and not keeping up with the group in front.
- Red means that you are behind Pace and not keeping up with the group in front.
Course Ranger also provides an online interface to course staff allow them to monitor the positioning and pace of play of all groups. If assistance is needed, they can engage with the golfer using the objective information supplied by the Course Ranger system. For management, the Course Ranger system offers comprehensive live data analytics of what’s happening on the course, how often people play, age groups and customisable reports to match the needs of any club. The system will allow for an increase in green fee revenues due to the quantifiable reduction in round times, while enhancing the golfers experience.
Slow play is now endemic in golf and is the number 1 issue that poses a real threat to the future and sustainability of the game globally. It is a problem that not only affects the smooth operational running of tee times for members but can also have a detrimental effect on the visitor experience. In today’s competitive world, it is not enough to present a beautifully designed course in great condition, offering a real test of golf, it is just as important to manage the logistics of just how long it takes to play. Leading figures from the governing bodies and world of golf have been vocal regarding the issue of Pace of Play.
Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of the R&A said: “There is no doubt that pace of play is a key issue for golf today and one on which many golfers have strong views.”
Glen Nager USGA President spoke out on the issue of pace of play highlighting its relevance to the future of the game -“Pace of play has been an issue for decades, but it has now become one of the most significant threats to the game’s health”
Mike Davis, USGA Executive Director said -“Slow play is also incompatible with our modern society, in which our personal time for recreation is compressed. This is an issue that demands our complete attention.”
