Phoenix, Arizona – Daphne’s Headcovers, the original animal headcover company, is celebrating the return of their CEO, Jane Spicer from Zambia.
In the 43rd year since the first headcover was sold, Daphne’s Headcovers are now available in more than 80 countries internationally. Their products are carried in the bags of hundreds of TOUR professionals including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, John Daly, Collin Morikowa, Patrick Cantlay, Lydia Ko, Brittany Lincicome, and more.
The company’s core value is; “We must do good while doing well.” Over the 4 decades of business Daphne’s Headcovers has been closely involved in many charities from the First Tee of Phoenix, to Girls Golf and Golf Fore Africa. Through funds raised via the sale of their giraffe headcover and Ms Spicer’s funding a well has been dug in Zambia to provide a village of 300 people clean drinking water. “When I learned via my friend ( and LPGA golf hall of famer) Betsy King that the women and girls walk up to 12 hours a day for water preventing them from going to work or school I knew I had to help, said Spicer”
In late June Spicer traveled to Zambia with Golf for Africa and World Vision to observe the magnitude and depth of the need, what life (survival) is like for women who walk for hours each and every day to bring contaminated drinking water back to their family; and then to dedicate the water wells that MS Spicer and others have funded and see the transformation that happens when clean water is accessible for drinking, cooking and hygiene. Mothers and fathers now have the time to spend raising and providing for their children. Hope is now on the faces of the children.
Betsy King who is the founder of Golf Fore Africa has this to say about Spicer and Daphne’s Headcovers; “We are privileged to be able to partner with Jane Spicer and Daphne’s Headcovers as we strive to bring clean water to those in Zambia facing desperate need. Jane’s dedication and heart for the mission of clean water is a powerful catalyst for progress and we are grateful that she shares our passion for clean water. Her work through Daphne’s Headcovers is changing hundreds of lives by raising funds for wells in some of the hardest to reach and most impoverished communities in Zambia.”
Whilst in the bush in Zambia Jane Spicer was introduced to a widow and her 4 children whose home had been destroyed by fire. They were eating one meal a day, sleeping in the open bush ( where the day before Spicer and the Golf Fore Africa team had been delayed by an elephant walking through their path). Spicer and friends dove in to help immediately and now plans are being made to bring water to the village and a home is being built for this woman and her children.
Betsy King “As evident on her recent Vision Trip with Golf Fore Africa to Zambia, Jane never allows challenges to slow her down, rather she uses them as a springboard for bigger action and better outcomes.”
Spicer and her team at Daphne’s Headcovers now plan to raise funds for a mechanized well to fund a water system that would pipe water to 1,000 people, a school, and a health clinic.
“I’ve been fortunate to travel a bit of the world but I have never experienced the need or the love and grace of people as I did in the bush in Zambia. I am so honored to have my team at Daphne’s Headcovers standing behind me as we pledge to do more good work and follow in the footsteps of Betsy King, Golf Fore Africa and the good people at World Vision,” said Spicer. “ There will be many more trips to Zambia and I hope to continue to grow and learn with each visit. And I hope our friends will join us in our fundraising work as there is so much to be done”
