Limited Spaces Available; Proceeds Support Patient Services and Healthcare Heroes at RWJBarnabas Health’s Clara Maass Medical Center
Belleville, N.J. – While the annual Clara Maass Medical Center Golf Invitational was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Super Bowl Champions don’t like to sit on the sidelines. Former New York Giant and two-time Super Bowl Champion David Diehl, a current NFL analyst, will serve as honorary chairman of the 6th annual Clara Maass Medical Center Golf Invitational, on Monday, July 12 at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit.
A limited number of playing spots remain for the charitable event, which moves to Canoe Brook for the first time. The day will kick-off with a brunch at 10:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and will conclude with an awards dinner at 6:00 p.m. As part of the program, David Diehl will be joined by popular sports reporter Mike Garafolo (NFL Network) for a “chalk talk” to discuss the inside scoop on the upcoming NFL season.
A line-up of celebrities, current NFL players and several of Diehl’s former NY Giants teammates are scheduled to participate this year, as proceeds from the event will support patient services and healthcare heroes at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, a RWJBarnabas Health facility.
An Essex County resident, Diehl has been a strong supporter of Clara Maass Medical Center since his playing days and currently serves as an ambassador for RWJBarnabas Health and The Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes. He speaks regularly to young athletes, parents and coaches on topics such as leadership, sportsmanship, the importance of concussion education and cardiac screenings for young athletes and healthy tips to optimize performance.
“David’s energy and passion is contagious and being such an advocate for both our patients and healthcare heroes, I am thrilled the golf portion of this annual event is back on the schedule for this summer,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer, Clara Maass Medical Center.
Diehl, who spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the New York Giants, won two Super Bowl Championships (2008 and 2012) and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2009. In 2012, Diehl was also the recipient of the prestigious Wellington Mara NFL Man of the Year Award.
A limited number of golf playing spots are available for individual golfers or foursomes interested in participating in the event. Sponsorships, advertisements and tee signs are available as well. For more information, call 973-450-2277 or visit www.claragolf.org.
