Dormie Network’s Ballyhack Golf Club Hires New General Manager, Joe Moultrie
LINCOLN, Neb. —Officials at Dormie Network, a national network of private destination golf clubs, announced today the appointment of Joe Moultrie as General Manager of Ballyhack Golf Club, a Lester George–designed course located in Roanoke, Virginia.
Moultrie, a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Arts degree, is a Certified Club Manager (CCM) through the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and brings more than 13 years of experience in private club and hospitality management to Ballyhack.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Joe to the Dormie Network team!” says Dormie Network Chief Operating Officer Mark Ruhga.
The culture of Ballyhack is what most excites Moultrie about joining the Dormie Network team. “Dormie has a well-defined vision centered on delivering a golf experience rooted in unreasonable hospitality, while fostering a healthy, collaborative environment where employees are empowered to grow and succeed,” he says.
Moultrie began his hospitality career in 2012 as a banquet server at the Country Club of Birmingham and quickly advanced through leadership roles. Within eight years, he assumed responsibility for overseeing all restaurant operations.
“Beginning my career as a line-level employee and working my way through every level of club operations has given me a deep appreciation for team dynamics, accountability, and service excellence,” Moultrie says. “This progression has shaped my leadership style, strengthened my people skills, and reinforced my passion for hospitality and operational excellence.”
In 2023, Moultrie was selected as the inaugural clubhouse manager at Wicker Point Golf Club, a Coore & Crenshaw–designed course in Lake Martin, Alabama. During his tenure, the club was recognized as a Top 3 New Private Golf Course in the Nation by Golf Digest (2023) and the No. 1 Golf Course in Alabama by Golf Magazine.
“Joe’s background in elevated hospitality, combined with an innate ability to build teams through genuine care, communication, and camaraderie, makes him a perfect match for Ballyhack and the Dormie Network experience,” says Ruhga.
Moultrie values community involvement and has served on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Chapter of CMAA, the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce, and the Career Advisory Board for Benjamin Russell High School.
As General Manager, Moultrie emphasizes a leadership philosophy centered on relationship-building. “I place a high value on building genuine relationships with those I lead. Taking the time to know team members beyond their roles—whether it is their interests, families, or goals—creates trust and engagement. I lead by example and hold myself to the same standards and expectations I set for the team,” he says.
Ballyhack is the No. 5 Best Course in Virginia and the No. 210 Greatest Courses in America as named by Golf Digest.
