Traveling Golfer Television Show Takes a Ride Along the Ed Shearon Golf Trail
America boasts a large number of scenic roads. They are designated by the roadside signs that invite travelers to enjoy the view. But the most scenic of all roads is actually a trail. To be exact, it is the golf trail that brings beauty and challenge to all of the golfers across this country.
The award-winning Traveling Golfer television show takes a look – throughout June — at one of these trails. And that trail is the “Ed Shearon Golf Trail,” which is comprised of three outstanding daily fee golf courses in Pennsylvania and South Jersey. It is the story of how one architect, who grew up in the shadows many golf courses that prove to be the greatest golf architecture accomplishments in the Philadelphia area, used that inspiration to greatly enhance the quality of daily fee golf in the region.
The three courses – in order of construction – are RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club in West Deptford, NJ; Raven’s Claw GC in Pottstown, PA and the recently re-named Vineyard National Golf Course at Renault, not far from Atlantic City.
Show host Tony Leodora will take viewers on a scenic tour of all three golf courses … and engage in a stimulating conversation with the architect, who has been richly showered with praise for his work.
“These were three totally different projects,” explains Shearon, who produced the three courses in machine-gun fashion between 2003 and 2007. “In the first case we were fortunate to build long the banks of the Delaware River, with spectacular views of Philadelphia. Raven’s Claw had rolling hills, creeks and magnificent tall trees. And Vineyard National had rolling hills, a European-style hotel and an operating winery. Those three settings provided variety … but they also posed some challenges.”
In each case, the end result lifted the spirits of visiting golfers. In the cases of RiverWinds and Vineyard National, new ownership has used a new infusion of energy and capital to further lift the spirits of all who visit.
“This is one of my favorite show … because it tells such a good story,” says Leodora, who has played many rounds of golf on each of the courses. “And all in the inner circle of golf know that the industry can use a few good stories during these challenging times.”
The June episode runs throughout the month on the Traveling Golfer network of websites … including The Golf Director Network (see full list of sites on travelinggolfervideo.com). It also will air a number of times in the Month of May on “Rivertalk” on HTC-4 in Myrtle Beach.
The Traveling Golfer also airs as a scheduled weekly feature show on NBC Sports and NBC Sports + throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NBC Sports airings are 10:30 a.m. Sundays, 11 p.m. on Tuesdays and 11 a.m. Thursdays. NBC Sports + airs the show at 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. And, now, the show also airs nationally on the new Fun Roads Network.
As part of every Traveling Golfer show there is the additional feature, “Tech Talk”, hosted by Tour Edge Golf experts, such as President Dave Glod. With years of experience as a club maker, Glod presents an inside look at the research and development of high-quality golf equipment.
Responding to golfers’ never-ending demands to learn more about interesting golf courses and golf resorts across the country and around the world, well-traveled host Tony Leodora created the Traveling Golfer so he could take viewers on video trips to some of the most exciting golf locations. The show won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the prestigious International Network of Golf Awards, presented at the PGA Merchandise Show in January of 2019. The latest award came on the heels of an unprecedented three straight years as the No. 1 Golf Television Show in America
