ROBERT TRENT JONES’ MASTERPIECE, EISENHOWER BLUE, SHINES FOR ALL TO SEE AS THE USGA HOSTS ITS FIRST TOURNAMENT ON MILITARY SOIL

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO  – The pristine RTJ classic, Eisenhower Blue, is hosting the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship this week in Colorado Springs on a course that is a prime Robert Trent Jones Sr. classic, built in 1959 and unaltered since President Eisenhower hit the inaugural first tee shot.

“In all my years conditions on the course have never been better, “said Steve Wallace, General Manager, adding “it is a real tribute to my team given the tough spring weather conditions.”

In addition to pristine conditions and excellent weather, the opening ceremonies included a speech by astronaut, Eileen Collins, a parachute team landing on the driving range, and an Air Force flyover. Astronaut Collins likened her trailblazing career to the young ladies navigating the course. Adding to the festivities was a visit by Robert Trent Jones Jr. who recalled fondly his father’s work. “It is really special to see all of my father’s unique design principals at work, especially a wonderful routing through the Colorado front range.”

The Eisenhower Blue Course features classic RTJ elements such as subtle elevation changes, excellent routing, framed greens with multiple pin locations, strategic water hazards and of course, runway tees. The unchanged nature of his design was a key factor in the USGA deciding on the venue. All the elements will be in play as the ladies determine the best junior golfer July 21 and 22 in match play. USAFA is one of 36 Robert Trent Jones Society member clubs and with West Point, the only two military courses in the Society.
