(CROWNSVILLE, Md.) – Eisenhower Golf Course – one mile outside the capital city of Annapolis, Maryland and named after the 34thU.S. President and avid golfer Dwight D. Eisenhower – has changed its name to The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course in concert with a $5 million renovation of the course.
The re-brand reflects not only Eisenhower serving the community as a championship golf course, but its goal to become a sanctuary for local wildlife. The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course also embodies a golf course layout that promotes sustainability and eco-friendly maintenance practices, including stream preservation, amid a majestic natural setting.
The Eisenhower name remains due to its strong reputation and community ties, and to honor President Eisenhower, amid a majestic natural setting.
“Eisenhower is a shining example of what happens when innovation meets opportunity,” says Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman. “The newly designed course will be an oasis for golfers and a habitat for wildlife to enjoy.”
The re-brand aligns with the re-opening of The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course in Spring 2021 after a $5 million project covering a complete of the public-access layout. The eco-friendly approach is the brainchild of burgeoning golf course architect Andrew Green and highlighted by removal of all bunkers and installation of Bermuda grass fairways and tee boxes requiring less water and chemical inputs.
Green, who is also engineering a makeover of Congressional Country Club’s famous Blue Course in preparation for major tournament play over the coming decades, uses native fescue and strategic mounding for visual appeal and playing challenges at The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course. Five sets of tees from 4,700 to 7,100 yards satisfy golfers of all abilities along their journeys through forestland and alongside numerous creeks and swales.
Indigo Golf Partners (formerly Billy Casper Golf) participated in project implementation and is entering its 23rd year managing the course.

Undertaken in tandem with the Anne Arundel County Watershed Protection and Restoration Program as a stream restoration and storm water management project, The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course will increase wetlands by more than 13 acres, bringing wildlife to the area.
The Preserve at Eisenhower Golf Course enjoys longstanding designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International. For more than a decade, it has maintained sound practices in six key areas: environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction, water conservation and water quality management.
“The Preserve will be a continuation of what Eisenhower has exhibited throughout its time as a community asset,” says Erik Michelsen, Anne Arundel County Head of the Watershed Protection and Restoration Program. “We believe the redesign and the rebrand will make the course among the most progressive and sustainable in the U.S.”
Additional improvements include an expanded driving range, abundance of new boardwalks, creek restoration, state-of-the-art irrigation system (with precise targeting for reduced water usage) and new golf carts.
Opened in 1969, the original design was crafted by renowned architect Ed Ault on more than 220 acres of splendidly wooded landscape and is an area favorite for Anne Arundel and surrounding counties.
