El Macero, California – El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif. will host The El Macero Classic collegiate golf tournament, April 10 – 12. The event is free for the public to attend and watch top men’s amateur golfers compete on El Macero’s championship layout. Hosted by UC Davis, The El Macero Classic will feature 19 universities, including UC San Diego, Colorado State University, the University of Nevada, Washington State, and Wyoming.
New for 2026, the tournament will host an autograph signing session and a free junior clinic on Saturday, April 11th with local youth golfers receiving lessons from players and coaches. Space is limited for the junior clinic, therefore those interested in participating should RSVP by calling 530-753-3363 prior to April 10. In addition, all spectators can watch The Masters in a special viewing area adjacent to the El Macero snack bar. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
“The first thing that jumps out to me and our men’s golf team at UC Davis is how welcoming the membership at El Macero makes the schools feel, and how much participation we have from the membership,” said UC Davis Men’s Golf Coach Cy Williams. “It is a rare occurrence at college tournaments to feel so welcomed and the schools that come here to play notice it and really enjoy it. The other important factor to mention is the greens at El Macero, the greens are among the absolute best that we play in college golf, I received numerous comments to that fact from players from other teams, and our players as well. Finally, I would like to point out how amazing the staff at El Macero Country Club is when it comes to preparing and executing the tournament. The entire team from start to finish goes above and beyond to ensure a flawless tournament.”
This year marks the 12th annual El Macero Classic. Past individual champions include the University of San Francisco’s Oscar Holm-Bredkjaer (2025) and Nevada’s Enrique Dimayuga (2024). UC San Diego is the defending champion as the Triton’s edged out St. Mary’s College by one stroke in 2025.
“We’re proud to host the El Macero Classic, a prestigious collegiate event that brings great energy and recognition to our club. It’s a privilege to welcome these talented student-athletes, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come,” said El Macero Country Club General Manager Chris Johnson.
In 2025, El Macero Country Club completed a multi-million-dollar renovation project that focused on green surrounds and bunker enhancements. The improvements have been well received, with golfers now presented with multiple shot options around greens, enhanced turf conditions, and beautiful white sand bunkers.
El Macero Country Club was founded in 1961 by C. Bruce Mace as part of the El Macero property development. In 1966, the members purchased the club from the Mace family. Located about 10 miles west of Sacramento, El Macero Country Club meanders through the El Macero development and encompasses about 168 acres within beautiful residential surroundings. The Club’s 18-hole parkland-style championship course was designed by course architect Bob Baldock in 1961 and stretches to more than 6,860 yards. Notable golfers to play El Macero include Byron Nelson, Joe DiMaggio, Ronald Reagan and Tiger Woods. The Club has been managed by Troon Privé since 2007.
