Ten teams competed for the coveted champion title and raised money for First Tee Massachusetts
BOSTON, MASS. – Five Iron Golf, the nation’s leading urban golf and entertainment experience, hosted over 100 guests and golfers during the first Five Iron Golf Boston Open Championship, on Thursday, February 16. The first-of-its-kind event was created to introduce the local community to the Five Iron Golf brand through friendly competition. The nine-hole, team tournament benefited First Tee Massachusetts, a youth development organization that utilizes golf to help kids and teens build valuable life skills.
Teams and top local amateurs experienced firsthand Five Iron Golf’s industry-leading simulators as they teed off on Pebble Beach’s historic course in a four-person scramble. Teams competed for the chance to win an exclusive prize package and the honor of holding the title of the first Boston Open Championship winner. After a close competition, top Massachusetts amateur golfers, Pam Kuong, Kurt Flionis, Chelsea, Curtis and Jessica Hughes were awarded the elusive title of champion. After being named champions, the group donated the four brand-new Callaway Paradym drivers included in the prize package back to First Tee Massachusetts.
The event raised $1,100 for First Tee Massachusetts. Participants in the Boston Open Championship donated $20 to the organization to compete in a closest-to-the-pin competition for the chance to win a stay-and-play package at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, Five Iron Golf’s Co-Founders donated $5,000 to the youth organization and offered direct access to the new Boston facility for the First Tee Massachusetts team to host clinics. The partnership between Five Iron Golf and First Tee Massachusetts is a continuation of the urban golf brand’s existing relationship with Mass Golf, an organization committed to advancing the game of golf in Massachusetts by building an engaged and inclusive community around the sport.
“Boston has been our highest anticipated opening since we started our business in 2017,” said Jared Solomon, CEO and Co-Founder of Five Iron Golf. “Receiving such a warm welcome from the local community, and bringing people together to have fun, is why we created Five Iron in the first place. We were honored to host this event for the first time in Boston, welcoming local business leaders and community members into our space. We’re proud to partner with organizations like First Tee Massachusetts and Mass Golf to support the collective mission of increasing accessibility to the game.”
The funds donated to First Tee Massachusetts will allow them to continue to build and execute programming for 30,000 children annually to learn valuable life skills through the game of golf.
“First Tee Massachusetts is building game changers by empowering kids and teens through golf,” said Kyle Harris, First Tee Massachusetts Director of Operations. “We were thrilled to be the philanthropic partner of the Five Iron Golf Boston Open Championship. It means a lot to be able to talk to guests about First Tee and have a few of our kids be a part of the event. We are excited about Five Iron Golf Boston and to work together to grow the game beyond this event!”
The Boston location is located at 1 Washington Mall in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood. Prior to opening its doors, Five Iron Golf Boston sold out its Founding Memberships, officially welcoming over 300 Members on January 27 when Five Iron Golf opened to the public.
