ORLANDO, Fla. (April 16, 2018) – PGA teaching professional and PGA Tour Life Member/Past Champion David Ogrin, a former winner of this week’s Valero Texas Open event on the PGA Tour, is scheduled to appear as a guest instructor on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive on Wednesday, April 18 and Saturday, April 21.
The popular daily morning show airs from 7-9 a.m. ET on Wednesday and from 7-8 a.m. on Saturday.
Ogrin, Director of Instruction for the Alamo City Golf Trail and Golf Channel Academy at San Pedro in San Antonio, Texas, is one of the inaugural coaches in Golf Channel Academy (GCA), a dedicated network of teaching facilities. Select GCA coaches are being invited to appear on the network’s news and instruction shows, including PGA Tour Champions Learning Center and School of Golf. Ogrin is making his first appearance on Morning Drive.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be asked to appear on Morning Drive,” said Ogrin, who spent two years as the Director of Instruction at Topgolf San Antonio before joining the Alamo City Golf Trail. “It’s my passion to help golfers play their best on the course, and I look forward to sharing some of my favorite tips and playing lessons with the viewers at home.”
Ogrin played on the PGA Tour from 1983-2000. In more than 500 starts, he posted 32 top-10 finishes, highlighted by a victory at the 1996 La Cantera Texas Open in San Antonio, where he defeated Jay Haas by one stroke and then-rookie Tiger Woods by two shots. Woods was making just his sixth professional start and was coming off his first PGA Tour win the week before at the Las Vegas Invitational.
“One of my ice-breaker lines is that I beat Tiger so bad he hasn’t come back to San Antonio. It’s all my fault,” said Ogrin. “In all seriousness, finally getting an official PGA Tour win during Tiger-mania was special.” Ogrin also competed on the PGA Tour Champions and European, Asian, Canadian and South African tours, and tied for 10th at the 1997 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club.
After his playing career was over, Ogrin set out to become a leader in player development and performance coaching. He is a graduate of the VISION54® Coaching for the Future program and holds certifications with, among others, Fluid Motion Factor, Putting Zone and Operation36. To date, Ogrin has been teaching golf for 15 years.
