The Fourth BMW Indoor Invitational Tournament Was Full of Surprises

The fourth BMW Indoor Invitational tournament was full of surprises!

Valderrama’s Tour history (almost) repeats itself

Golf fans with long memories might recall the epic 2002 European Tour tie between Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer at the legendary Valderrama course. After two extra holes, their sudden-death play-off was ended by failing light and the two players genially agreed to share the title.

The fourth tournament in the BMW Indoor Invitational took place on TrackMan’s new virtual Valderrama course and the result was even more dramatic than in 2002 – a three-nation, five-way tie!

Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Sergio Garcia (Spain), Damien Perrier (France), Matthew Jordan and Connor Syme (UK) all came in at 1 under par in a tough battle that easily could have gone to any one of the deserving winners. The five winners split BMW’s $10,000 prize money between them to support coronavirus-related charities of their choice.

“It shows you how difficult Valderrama is even on a simulator – we had a good time Rafa and I playing together” says Sergio Garcia

Rafa Cabrera-Bello agrees: “It was actually cool, the course design was great and the green shapes, you could see the run offs and stuff like that, so it was actually like playing as real as it can possibly be”.

In a fitting end to this fantastic golfing initiative, the last course for the tournament will be Wentworth. Wentworth Club has been known as the home of golf champions since the precursor to the Ryder Cup was played there in 1926, and some of the greatest professionals of the modern golfing era have on Wentworth’s hallowed courses. Wentworth’s three courses have each played host to some of the world’s most prestigious trophies, including British Masters, Women’s British Open and the World Match Plan.

The highlights from this grand finale of the BMW Indoor Invitational will be sent on Saturday June 6th. Make a note in your diary to follow the action! Fans can find all the tournament video footage on TrackMan’s social media channels using #BMWTrackManInvitational, and at https://bmw.trackmaninvitational.com.
