G2 Academy student Maddie Elias started playing competitive rounds in the Spring of 2019 and posting scores in the 90’s. Fast forward to December 2020 and Maddie shot her lowest competitive round to date, a 76 in the Peggy Kirk Bell Tour Tournament of Champions at Pinehurst. Maddie credits G2 Academy in helping her game drastically improve since joining G2 in June. However, Maddie’s determination and perseverance has a lot to do with her recent success.
Maddie is the daughter of a PGA professional, but softball was her passion growing up. She was on the same path as her older sister who played division one softball as she was being recruited heavily. Then in June 2018, the Elias family received shocking news. Maddie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. However, with Maddie’s resilient attuite and diligent mindset, she completed chemotherapy in August 2018.
After beating cancer, Maddie found new motivation and a desire to play golf. Maddie went to work right away and broke 100 in August 2019. Then she broke 90 in May 2020. She joined G2 in June 2020 and after 6 months of training, her scoring differential has come down from 30 to 12.49. In a two-day event that she played in July, she posted a 79 the first day and 78 the next. She has recently won a long drive contest at a Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event this past November as well.
When asked about her story and desire to get better, G2 Academy Director of Golf Dan Jackson stated “She is an amazing young woman and an inspiration to the people who spend time with her. She commits herself 100% in all that she does and is wonderful to work with. It is a privilege and an honor to be her coach.”
Maddie plans on taking a gap year has her sights set on playing collegiate golf in 2022 while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration and animation.
