Scottish star delivers apparel brand’s second Tour victory in a week for its new VENTIL8™ PLUS outfits
Gemma Dryburgh made it two Tour victories inside a week for Team Galvin Green and its latest VENTIL8™ PLUS moister-wicking clothing range, when claiming her maiden LPGA Tour title at the Toto Japan Classic last weekend.
Her triumph in southern Japan comes hot on the heels of Jordan’s Smith’s standout three-shot victory at the Portugal Masters on the DP World Tour wearing clothing made from the same quick-drying and comfortable fabric.
Gemma, who signed with Galvin Green earlier this year, became the first Scottish golfer to win on the LPGA Tour since 2011 and boosted her chances to represent Europe at next season’s Solheim Cup contest against the United States in Spain.
Starting the final round one shot off the lead, she carded a superb bogey-free, seven-under 65 for a 20-under total to finish four shots ahead of Japan’s Kana Nagai, while new world number one Atthaya Thitikul was tied for tenth. Sweden’s Linn Grant finished third. The turning point for Gemma came with a three at the 11th, followed by five birdies in eight holes to take top spot on the leaderboard. Gemma’s career-best 72-hole score of 268 shattered her previous record of 276 and she became the 11th Rolex First-Time Winner of the season.
The 29-year-old from Aberdeen, who was a LPGA Rookie in 2018 and is enjoying her best year on Tour, said: “It’s been a dream for a long time and a lot of hard work has gone into this. It means so much as it’s a life-changing win. I was incredibly calm to be honest and kind of focused on my breathing.”
Gemma achieved her triumph in sunny conditions at the Seta Golf Course in Shiga near Kyoto wearing the new Galvin Green MARISSA patterned short sleeved shirt – finishing in the striking Surf Blue, Navy & Pink style. The highly breathable shirt comes in stretch fabric with a tailored collar and longer sleeves, plus contrast piping on the placket along with UV protection to a factor on 20+. She also wore contrasting MARIE Navy breathable knitted skirts with inner shorts for maximum comfort. The skirt offers a wide waistband and front pockets with a side zipper closure. Stylish slits are detailed on the front.
“To have consecutive winners on the leading Men’s and Ladies’ Tours during the same season is a great result for Galvin Green and our latest collections,” said CEO Nicholai Stein. “Our congratulations go to Gemma and Jordan for performing so well in sunshine temperatures that put our moisture-wicking garments fully to the test and they passed with flying colors,” he added.
Galvin Green high-performance clothing designed for women golfers playing in warmer temperatures includes options across a total of 13 shirts, four skorts and two shorts. For the full collection, visit: www.galvingreen.com.
