Expert club fitter SwingFit debuts Gears 3D motion tracking system at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, the only facility in the Carolinas offering such advanced technology. Software tracks everything going on with the golfer’s body and the club, allowing SwingFit’s master fitters to see how the club and shaft are interacting with the golfer’s unique tempo and movement patterns throughout the entire swing – leading to a perfect club fitting.

SwingFit is the only facility in the Carolinas to make the investment needed to make the most advanced piece of technology available to the general public.
The expert club-fitting service at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, SwingFit is headed by Chris Wycoff, who earlier this year was once again named one of Golf Digest magazine’s “Top 100 Club Fitters” in America for 2017-2018 – the third consecutive year he has received such a prestigious designation.
SwingFit is located at Palmetto Dunes’ Robert Trent Jones Course.
Wycoff said that Gears is an optical (camera-based) motion tracking system, powered by eight 1.7 megapixel cameras running at 360 frames per second, which look at more than 600 images per swing. The software tracks everything going on with the golfer’s body and the club.
“When utilizing Gears, our master fitters can see how the club and shaft are interacting with your unique tempo and movement patterns throughout the entire swing,” Wycoff said. “When doing a traditional fitting, the fitter is working to optimize the output (ball flight) with little insight into the inputs (the club/swing interaction); Gears allows us to see both the input and output. This results in fittings that are more accurate and faster resulting in even better scores.”
Wycoff said that when fitting with Gears, SwingFit utilizes an indoor/outdoor process.
“When you first arrive and start to warm up, we will prep your driver or 7 iron,” Wycoff said. “Once warm, we’ll capture several swings with your club as a baseline. The next step is to take swings with several of our standard fitting shafts that span various flexes, weights and profiles using a constant club head. We’ll learn how these variables interact with your swing identifying your best shaft profile. We’ll then take this knowledge outside where we’ll test 2-4 shafts that match your optimal shaft profile while also identifying the best club head from our wide assortment of heads from the top club manufacturers.”
In addition to a better fit, golfers who go through a Gears fitting at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort will receive videos of their swing capture and SwingFit’s fitting performance guarantee.
Wycoff said Driver/Fairway and Iron/Hybrid fittings are currently available for $200 per 1.5-2 hour session.
Along with Fittings SwingFit is able to utilize its Gears system to offer Golf Performance Scans.
“Performance scans offer the ultimate insight into how your swing and current equipment are working together,” Wycoff said. “We spec out and put temporary reflectors on your clubs while you warm up, get into the Gears suit and we discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your game.”
The golfer then takes 2-3 swings each with their driver, fairway, hybrid or long iron, mid iron and a wedge. Results will include a detailed equipment report with specs that include what clubs are helping their game and any opportunities for improvement, a swing analysis that highlights the strengths and weaknesses of their swing across each type of club and videos of their swing that a golfer can easily share with instructors and friends.
