Giants Ridge Announces Golf Opening Dates
The Quarry, The Legend to Open in May with Social Distancing Guidelines
(BIWABIK, Minn.) – Giants Ridge – Minnesota’s leading golf resort set in the rugged beauty of the Mesabi Iron Range – announces play on The Quarry golf course will begin May 1 and The Legend will commence later that month following Governor Tim Walz’s decision to allow golf courses to open with social distancing restrictions.
A convenient three-hour drive along I-35 from the Minneapolis – St. Paul metro area, Giants Ridge boasts two of the highest-ranked layouts in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” The Quarry and The Legend. The aptly named Quarry is built on the site of a former sand quarry and iron ore mine with dramatically raised tees and natural hazards providing thrills. Carved out of the Superior National Forest, The Legend is a true “Northwoods” layout featuring towering pines, giant fairways and majestic vistas of Wynne and Sabin Lakes.
On April 17, Governor Walz declared Minnesota golf courses could open through an order intended to get state residents out of their homes and safely outdoors while restarting the state’s golf industry. Both courses will follow social distancing guidelines set by the resort that include:
- Tee times reservations are required and available online or via phone with no walk-ons
- All payments will be completed over the phone prior to the tee time
- Only one rider per golf cart unless riding with someone from same household
- Flagsticks must always remain in the hole
- The removal of all bunker rakes
The golf pro shop will be closed to the public. Limited merchandise will be available by phone requests. The driving range will be open to playing guests only; however, the practice putting green will be closed. In addition, outside service staff will not be available to assist in loading and unloading bags, and limited food and beverage service will be offered.
