TAMPA, Fla. – More than 200 items from three-time major champion Payne Stewart’s personal golf collection are currently up for auction online exclusively now through March 14, 2021 at www.TheGolfAuction.com.
Coming directly from Payne Stewart’s family and his widow Tracey Stewart, this is the very first opportunity for worldwide collectors and fans alike to acquire a few items from the Hall of Famer’s passionate and colorful career.
“I am pleased to share these items as a reminder of how much Payne enjoyed golf, but even more, how much he enjoyed people.” Tracey shared in a statement. “I hope these will become treasured mementos that will inspire and encourage people in the same way Payne lived his life.”
Stewart died in a plane crash in 1999 at the age of 42 shortly after winning the U.S. Open in Pinehurst, NC. He was survived by Tracey and their two Children, Aaron and Chelsea. Stewart won 18 tournaments around the world and $11.7 million in his career. He also represented the United States on five RYDER C teams and played on three World Cup teams.
Some of the items up for auction include Stewart’s players badge from the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, where Stewart sank a 15-foot putt on the 18th hole on Sunday to win the championship, and famously cupped second place finisher and first-time expectant father, Phil Mickelson’s face in his hands and said, “Good luck with the baby. There is nothing like being a father.” Other items include personal golf clubs, commemorative plates, crystal glasses, and several additional badges.
Known for his unique style and partnership with the National Football League that included wearing complete golf outfits showcasing different NFL team colors, Stewart was one of the most recognizable and popular players in golf. A number of clothing items up for auction include an autographed flat “ivy cap,” argyle knee high socks, golf shoes, cuff links and a sweater vest.
“Payne Stewart was such a passionate, engaging golfer both on and off the golf course,” said Brad Roberts, Vice President of Marketing and Consignments. “The record-breaking traffic we have had participating in this exclusive auction shows how popular he remains today.”
The current auction will come to a close on Sunday, March 14 at 9:00 pm EST with extended bidding allowed until all bids are final. To buy, sell or consign golf memorabilia items, register online at www.thegolfauction.com or call The Golf Auction at 866.842.0268.
