Opportunities for competition in five upcoming events throughout the year
Williamsburg, VA (May 3, 2018) – Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and Colonial Williamsburg Resorts announced its schedule of five exciting opportunities for participants to play in competitive golf events at the property in 2018. The events schedule which is open for public players, members and hotel guests focuses on fun, friendly competition at the award-winning golf venues at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.

26th Annual Golden Horseshoe Invitational
Saturday, July 14 & Sunday, July 15, 2018
The premier amateur team event of the year in the Mid-Atlantic Region is back at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club. Two person teams compete for two days on the award-winning Gold Course (home to numerous NCAA, VSGA and USGA Championships).
Tournament Details:
• 36-hole, four-ball (two person best ball) stroke play format.
• Both rounds on The Gold Course.
• Competition in Open, Senior (age 50 and over) and Super Senior (age 65 and over) Divisions.
• Field size is limited to 56 two person teams.
• Players must have a valid USGA handicap to compete for prizes.
• Opening night reception
• BBQ lunch following play on Sunday
• Prizes for winning teams depending on field size in each division
• Special Practice round rate of $99 per player
$549 per team (2 people) – tournament only

26th Annual Jones Cup Parent / Child Tournament
Saturday, July 21 & Sunday, July 22, 2018
This fun filled two day, two person team event is played over both championship courses at Golden Horseshoe with two exciting formats. For the first time ever, the Jones Cup will expand its competition as a parent / child event. Eligible teams will be comprised of parent / child, stepparent / stepchild, parent-in-law / child-in-law, or grandparent / grandchild. Competitors vie to have their names added to the coveted Jones Cup, a silver trophy crafted by a local silversmith who has worked with engraving on the famed Ryder Cup.
Tournament Details:
• 36-hole event
• Round 1 Green Course – four-ball (two person best ball) format
• Round 2 Gold Course – modified alternate shot format
• Players must have a valid USGA handicap to compete for prizes.
• Opening night reception
• BBQ lunch following play on Sunday
• Prizes for net and gross winners
• Special practice round pricing – $50 per player on Green Course – $75 on Gold Course – children 18 and under play free with a paying adult for practice rounds.

Inaugural Golden Horseshoe Pro-Am Patriot Cup
Monday, October 15 & Tuesday, October 16, 2018
Launching in 2018, this new event will allow club professionals from all over the country to compete with three amateurs on the award-winning Gold Course while experiencing all that the Colonial Williamsburg Resort has to offer. The 36-hole competition will be played using the best two scores of four on every hole.
Tournament Details:
• 36-hole event on The Gold Course
• Field limited to 25 four-person teams (one professional and three amateurs).
• Players must have a valid USGA handicap to compete for prizes.
• Opening night reception and pairings party
• Player gifts
• Awards reception following play on Tuesday
• Prizes for net and gross winners
$1240 per team (1 professional and 3 amateurs) – tournament only
$449 per person – tournament and room at The Griffin Hotel at Colonial Williamsburg Resorts (2 nights, double occupancy – single occupancy rates also available)

26th Annual Couples Invitational
Sunday, November 4 & Monday, November 5, 2018
A congenial golf gathering that always delivers plenty of enjoyment as well as challenges on both The Green and The Gold Course. The 36-hole Couples Tournament plays the first round in Captain’s Choice format and the second round in four-ball format. Flights are based on the total handicap of each team.

• Round 1 Green Course – captain’s choice (scramble) format
• Round 2 Gold Course – four-ball (two person best ball) format
• Players must have a valid USGA handicap to compete for prizes.
• Competitors will be flighted based on total team handicap

Fall Military Invitational
Saturday, November 10 & Sunday, November 11, 2018
Popular with military members and friends, the tournament requires that the two-person amateur teams must have at least one active-duty, retired, or reserve military or National Guard member. Both rounds will be played on The Green Course.

• Round 1 – captain’s choice (scramble) format
• Round 2 – four-ball (two person best ball) format
• Players must have a valid USGA handicap to compete for prizes
• Competitors will be flighted based on round 1 scores
• Prizes for net and gross winners
$124.50 per person – tournament only
$263.50 per person – tournament and room at The Griffin Hotel at Colonial Williamsburg Resorts (2 nights, double occupancy)

The 2016-17 renovation of Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s original 1963 design of The Gold Course was directed by his son, Rees, known as the “Open Doctor” for his expert renovations of many U.S. Open courses. The Gold Course is one of the most highly-touted golf courses in the region, including recognition by Golf Digest as No. 79 on its list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses while GOLF Magazine ranks it as No. 55 on its list of the Top 100 Courses You Can Play. The Green Course, the other championship golf venue, has played host to a number of USGA National Championships as well as Virginia State Golf Championships.
