FIELD OF 1,150 AMATEURS SET TO COMPETE AT GOLF CHANNEL AM TOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, SEPT. 21-30
Culmination of More than 700 Events in 2018 Hosted by Famed Mission Hills Country Club
Competitors, Ages 13-85, Represent 38 U.S. States, Canada and Puerto Rico
A year of competition, highlighted by more than 7,500 amateur golfers of all ages and skill levels who competed across 700 tournaments in 2018, will culminate today with the start of the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships. The competition will take place through Sept. 30 at California’s famed Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships are divided into two events – Open National Championship, Sept. 21-24, and Senior National Championship (ages 50+), Sept. 27-30. Each player in the field will compete on all four courses in the rotation: Mission Hills Country Club – Dinah Shore Course (host of the ANA Inspiration, one of five major championships in professional women’s golf); Mission Hills Country Club – Pete Dye Challenge Course; Westin Mission Hills – Gary Player Signature Course; and Westin Mission Hills – Pete Dye Resort Course.
The format for both the open and senior division championships is a 72-hole, individual stroke-play competition with no cut. Twelve competitors in six flights – six from the senior division and six from the open division – will be crowned national champions in official awards ceremonies immediately following the conclusion of their respective tournaments.
Competitors will have the opportunity to meet several NBC Sports/Golf Channel on-air personalities during the Championships, including Tom Abbott, Jerry Foltz, Lisa Cornwell and Tripp Isenhour.
The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa is serving as the host hotel for the competitors and their families, as well as for both welcome dinners. This is the second consecutive year the Golf Channel Am Tour National Championships will be held at Westin Mission Hills, but marks the fifth time the event has taken place in Palm Springs (PGA West in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015). Other host venues have included TPC Sawgrass (2010, 2012), Grayhawk Golf Club (2014), and Innisbrook Resort (2016).
Golf Channel Am Tour offers an authentic, golf tour-quality experience for players of all ages and abilities, as well as an opportunity to compete on top golf courses in your area and around the country and against golfers of similar skill level. The Tour is accepting sign-ups for the 2018 season on the Golf Channel Am Tour website.
