Here’s How You Can Defend Your Turf and Battle Back
Charleston, S.C. – Prevalent (and sometimes drastic) legislative and regulatory mandates — and existential threats you can’t see or control — can and will threaten golf courses and the entire golf industry. Golf course owners and operators must get informed and involved to strengthen golf’s voice at the tables of local, state and federal lawmakers, policymakers and regulators. But where to start? At Golf Business Conference 2023, attendees will learn the threats, how to navigate the problems, and plan for not just next year but for the next 10.
During “Defending Your Turf — Courses from Coast to Coast are Battling Environmental, Legislative and Regulatory Hurdles… Here’s How to Battle Back,” the expert panelists — Craig Kessler, Director, Public Affairs at the Southern California Golf Association; Michael Lee, Senior Manager of Government Affairs at the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America; and Ronnie Miles, Senior Director of Advocacy at the National Golf Course Owners Association; and moderated by Harvey Silverman, Principal at Silverback Golf Marketing and frequent contributor to Golf Business publications — will explain the issues and threats, and how best to defend golf course businesses.
“Complacency is not an option… it’s time to defend your turf,” said Harvey Silverman. “Running a golf facility is the most complex retail business in the country, aside from the fact you are also a grass farmer. In this session, three advocacy experts who have worked to protect golf’s interests for decades will show you how to defend your own golf business.”
GBC23 will be held from January 23-25 in Orlando, Florida, co-located with the 2023 PGA Show. This panel session will take place Tuesday, January 24 at the Rosen Centre (the GBC23 host hotel). GBC23 education sessions are eligible for continuing education units (CEUs) for Professional Golfers Association (PGA), Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Club Management Association of America (CMAA), and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).
