Patent-Pending “Unsolicited Offer” Technology Debuts a Transaction Type That Has Never Existed in Ticketing, Travel, or Golf — Turning Golfer Demand Into New Revenue for Course Operators
Reston, Va. – Golf District today announced PricePoint, a new capability that allows a golfer to make an unsolicited offer on a sold-out, prepaid tee time, naming the price they’re willing to pay for a time that isn’t listed for sale anywhere. Built into Golf District’s modern booking engine and powered by the company’s patent-pending “Unsolicited Offer” technology, PricePoint introduces a transaction that has never existed in any high-demand inventory category: the buyer moves first, and the market, the course operator and existing tee time holders, respond in real time.
Ticketing marketplaces let buyers bid only on inventory a seller has already listed. Priceline-style travel bidding worked only against unsold rooms and seats. PricePoint inverts the model entirely: a golfer names what a sold-out tee time is worth to them, the course operator gets the first opportunity to accept, and if the course passes, the offer cascades to golfers already holding prepaid times in that window, none of whom ever had to list anything for sale. Demand doesn’t just find supply; it creates it.
“Golf courses have used dynamic pricing for years, but it’s always been one-directional, the operator sets the price and hopes they guessed right. The moment a tee time sells out, the market goes silent,” said Kevin Kalner, co-CEO of Golf District. “PricePoint opens the other side of the conversation. Golfers tell you exactly what a time is worth to them, and the course captures demand it couldn’t see before. This isn’t golf catching up to ticketing, it’s a transaction ticketing has never had, and golf gets it first. It’s true price discovery.”
How PricePoint Works
When a golfer submits an offer on a sold-out time window, Golf District’s “Squeeze Time” functionality gives the course operator an exclusive 10-minute window and the first right to accept, capturing incremental revenue by adding a new tee time into the requested window at the offered price. If the course declines or the window lapses, the offer is distributed to every prepaid tee time holder in the relevant window. Each holder can accept the offer, counter with their own price, or decline, and the first transaction accepted wins, completing the sale instantly for the golfer who moved fastest.
The result benefits every party in the transaction. Because offers can never come in below the original purchase price, a tee time holder who accepts always comes out ahead, profiting on a time they never even planned to sell, simply because the offer was compelling enough to change their mind. The course participates in revenue on the resale, and a golfer gets access to a premium tee time that otherwise wasn’t available at any price.
PricePoint also redefines the role of the waitlist. In a prepaid environment, waiting is no longer a golfer’s only move: the offer creates the market, and the waitlist simply monitors it. Rather than joining a queue and hoping a time opens up, golfers state what a tee time is worth to them and put that number to work, creating, for the first time, a market-based demand signal around golf’s most sought-after inventory.
Launch Partner
Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda, California is the first course in the world to go live with PricePoint. One of Southern California’s most in-demand daily-fee courses, Black Gold regularly sells out its prime weekend windows, exactly the conditions PricePoint was built for. Golfers can book tee times up to 120 days in advance at blackgoldgolf.com, powered by Golf District, the most modern hospitality engine in the golf industry, and when a desired time is sold out, submit an offer for it on the spot, giving the club visibility into demand for its busiest hours that was previously invisible.
Industry Perspective
“For decades we’ve watched tee time inventory expire with no real way to capture what another golfer would actually have paid for it, and no way for the original purchaser to recover their money,” said John McNair, COO of JC Resorts and former PGA of America board member. “Golf District’s PricePoint is the first thing I’ve seen that lets the market tell you what your tee times are truly worth, while still giving the course the first right to accept. It’s a genuinely new mechanism for the golf industry, and I expect it to change how operators think about pricing perishable inventory.
“Nobody truly knows what a sold-out tee time is worth on the open market, but Golf District is about to capture that data and rewrite the rules of tee time valuation.”- Mike Hendrix SMB Golf and Host of the Tech Caddie Podcast
