GOLF AM TOUR EXPANDS TO AUSTRALIA
NBC Sports Group Launches GOLF Am Tour Australia, Joining World’s Largest Amateur Golf Tour
Following Friday’s Tournament at Club Mandalay, GOLF Am Tour Australia Plans to Host More Than 25 Tournaments in 2019
GOLF Am Tour, the world’s largest amateur golf tour operated by the GOLF division of NBC Sports Group, has expanded into Australia.
GOLF Am Tour Australia on Friday hosted its debut tournament at Club Mandalay in Victoria – the first of 27 tournaments scheduled throughout the country in 2019. A full field competed in ideal conditions, with participants commenting about the “extremely well-run event,” as well as a “great value and experience.” Additionally, top finishers got a jump start by collecting valuable Order of Merit points toward a chance at competing at the GOLF Am Tour Australia National Final.
“Building on a decade of success in North America, we’re excited to be bringing the GOLF Am Tour’s one-of-a-kind playing experience to golfers across Australia,” said Brian Smith, general manager, Emerging Businesses International, GOLF. “No matter your age or ability, you will enjoy the professional treatment, and the opportunity to play on some of the best courses across the continent.”
For more than 10 years, GOLF Am Tour has hosted authentic, professional tournament experiences for amateur golfers of all ages and abilities, providing a chance to compete against golfers of similar skill levels on some of the world’s most renowned and challenging golf courses. Across North America in 2018, more than 7,500 amateur golfers – ranging in age from 11 to 82 – competed in 700 tournaments on the GOLF Am Tour.
Similarly, GOLF Am Tour Australia is open to the public, and in 2019 will host both one-day Local Tournaments (24) and two-day Major Championships (3), as well as a season-culminating National Final tournament to be held in December. Some of the more notable host golf courses include Brookwater Golf & Country Club, The Lakes Golf Club, New South Wales Golf Club, 13th Beach Golf Links, Royal Adelaide Golf Club, Royal Perth Golf Club, Cape Wickham Links, and Ocean Dunes Golf Course on King Island.
Top finishers in each tournament who hold a Golf Australia handicap will have the chance to win great prizes and a place in the National Final. Players also will be able to earn their way into the Final via the Am Tour Order of Merit. The winning team at the Final will win an all-expenses paid trip to the U.S. to play in the GOLF Am Tour’s Duel in the Desert event in Las Vegas, Nev., in February 2020.
All GOLF Am Tour Australia events abide by The R&A Rules of Golf, including rules that apply to golfers with amateur status. The GOLF Am Tour Australia plans to further expand its number of tournaments in 2020.
Upcoming tournaments include:
