November Weather to Give Thanks For (Nationally)
While the year as a whole hasn’t been bountiful, November delivered as Golf Playable Hours (GPH) were up 4% for the month which lifted the Year-to-Date (YtD) figure modestly to -1%. November historically marks a cumulative 97% of annual rounds “in the books” so, we’re going to end the year weather-wise off fractionally vs. ’23. The YtD regional breadth metric maintained level flight at a perfect 1:1 ratio comprised of 13 favorable regions vs. 13 unfavorables and 19 in the neutral zone (+/- 2%). National Played Rounds for October as published by Golf Datatech were off-the-charts at +12% at the All Facilities level. Looking at rounds exclusively makes one wonder whether that was superior management or an incredible weather tailwind. Comparing back to last month’s GPH results (only +2%), we can chalk October up to a continuing consumer trend and good execution by owner/operators. Combining the two numbers to produce % Utilization shows that, for the month, we gained 5 pts (wow!) which buoyed the YtD gain to +2 pts (solid) or 63%.
