Houston Instructor Shines at PGA Golf Club
(PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.) – GOLFTEC coach Carlos Sainz Jr. who teaches at the Upper Kirby center in Houston finished runner-up at the 43rd National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship contested this past weekend at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. GOLFTEC is the world’s leading provider of golf lessons and premium club fittings.
Sainz’s consistent ball striking and steady putting were key factors for his success, as he recorded four straight rounds even par or better during the 72-hole event. With his excellent finish, he earned an invitation back to PGA Golf Club to compete in next year’s tournament.
“What Carlos accomplished against this very strong field of assistant professionals is something he should be extremely proud of,” says Joe Assell, founder and chief executive officer of GOLFTEC. “We know how much effort he puts into his game when he’s not teaching and it’s remarkable to continue watching him excel.”
The Chicago native honed his craft at Mississippi State University prior to joining GOLFTEC. While teaching, Sainz has been playing professional golf on various Tours including a full season on the PGA TOUR in 2015, as well as the PGA TOUR Canada, Latinoamerica Tour, Asian Tour, and Korn Ferry Tour. In 2019, Carlos won the GOLFTEC Rookie of the Year award and won his section’s Assistant PGA Professional Championship by 10 strokes. Carlos continues to be inspired by the coaching he receives, and in turn it motivates him to pay it forward.
“Carlos has been playing very well this year and it’s really satisfying to see all his hard work pay off when it matters most,” says Doug Strawbridge, regional manager of GOLFTEC Upper Kirby. “His dedication to both teaching and competing is unparalleled and we look forward to seeing him in the winner’s circle very soon.”
