GolfTrek Named Title Sponsor of One of Myrtle Beach’s Most Popular Tournaments

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — GolfTrek, one of Myrtle Beach’s premier golf package providers, is the new title sponsor of what was the Calabash Cup, a 54-hole, two-person team event held each summer along the northern end of the Myrtle Beach golf scene.

The sixth annual event has been renamed the GolfTrek Challenge to reflect the role of one of the most respected names in golf travel. GolfTrek has been at the forefront of the Myrtle Beach golf scene since 1979 and has booked more than a million rounds

The 2020 GolfTrek Challenge will be played June 11-14, just across the state line in Brunswick County, N.C., and is expected to attract 160 players from more than 20 states. Six of the area’s most popular courses, including Carolina National, Lockwood Folly and Sandpiper Bay will host tournament play.

“We are thrilled to welcome GolfTrek as the title sponsor,” said Scott Tomasello, tournament director for Golf Tourism Solutions, the company that owns and operates the event. “The GolfTrek Challenge has been growing in popularity and the company’s involvement will help take the tournament to the next level, improving accommodations offerings and our pre and post-golf functions.”

With GolfTrek as the title sponsor, the event’s base of operations will be at Sea Trail Villas, the official accommodations provider of the tournament and the home of the Byrd, Jones and Maples courses. Tournament festivities will begin with a welcome dinner and pool party at the Sea Trail Village Amenities Center.

The GolfTrek Challenge, a handicap event, features a different format of play each day, beginning with best ball followed by a Texas scramble and modified alternate shot.

Cost of entry is just $249 and includes three rounds of golf, daily lunch, prizes and a welcome gift and reception.

The tournament opened for entry on January 14th and more information is available at www.golftrekchallenge.com/. For more information about GolfTrek, visit www.yourgolfpackage.com/.

In addition to the GolfTrek Challenge, the Golf Tourism Solutions Tournament Division also operates the Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic, March Championship, Palmetto Golf Championship, Veterans Golf Classic, PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship and the Short Par 4 Fall Classic.
