THE HIGHLAND COURSE AT PRIMLAND CLIMBS TO NO. 27 IN GOLFWEEK’S ‘200 BEST RESORT COURSES’ LIST

PRIMLAND - January 12, 2021

18-Hole Championship Course Located at Luxury Resort in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains

MEADOWS OF DAN, VIRGINIA  – The Highland Course at Primland improved by five places in Golfweek’s newly released 2021 “Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S.” list, rising to No. 27.

Set within Primland’s 12,000 acres of the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains in Southwestern Virginia, The Highland Course also earned the No. 2 rating in Virginia among the state’s several hundred public-access courses. These new accolades come on the heels of The Highland Course landing at No. 37 in Golfweek’s “America’s 100 Best Courses You Can Play,” out of more than 10,000 public courses in the country, and No. 30 in Golf Digest’s biennial “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses, 2019-2020.”

“Primland is thankful for this critical praise and to be ranked among some of the most iconic and well-known golf courses in the country,” said Steve Helms, Primland Vice President. “Our mission is to inspire our guests with our wide range of luxury amenities and activities.”

Designed by acclaimed architect, Englishman Donald Steel, The Highland Course layout was carved out from the natural landscape of the striking Blue Ridge Mountains. The 18-hole course has no surrounding development and is renowned for its impeccable conditions, dramatic elevation changes, expansive putting greens, and breathtaking views.

“Good courses protect the environment, bad designs disfigure it,” said Steel, who has the rare distinction of having advised every club or course on which the British Open Championship is, or has been, played. “They should provide an interesting challenge and fair test for every class of player; and they should make the best possible use of the land.”

Hundreds of Golfweek raters continually evaluate courses and rank them based on 10 criteria, including routing, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning, and overall land plan.

Primland offers a variety of lodging options and unique amenities, such as a world-class spa, farm-to-table dining, fishing, ATV riding, hiking, mountain biking and deep space stargazing via a Celestron CGE Pro 1400 telescope found inside the Observatory Dome.
